Pedal Palacios Bike Ride
Oct 11th, 2010, 9:20pm

Dorothy and I did the Pedal Palacios in Palacios, TX on Saturday,
10/9.  This was our favorite ride of the year and we’ll definitely be
back next year.  This was their second year to put on the ride and
there were 450-500 riders.  The town and county made a big deal of the
ride and tried to make sure everyone had a great time.  The mayor of
Palacios and the Matagorda county judge both spoke before the ride and
the school district music teacher sang the national anthem.  The start
was staged by rider speed, rather than distance.  The “Flying Fish”,
those averaging 18+ MPH, started first.  The “Red Fish”, averaging
14-18 MPH started next, and the “Trout”, all other speeds started
last.  They had 12 mile, 32 mile, and 62 mile routes.  Dorothy and I
rode the 32 mile route and were the only trikes. There was one
recumbent bike.   There was excellent traffic control with  volunteers
at each turn.  The rest stops were great with lots of porta potties
and all kinds of snacks.  There was a free shrimp boil at the end of
the ride that was outstanding.  This is a ride you need to put on your
calendar for next year.   Below is some video we took.
