Chain lube change
Jul 15th, 2010, 6:43am

I've been using Rock 'n' Roll blue probably more than any other kind the last few years, but am going to try White Lightning "Clean Ride" to try to get away from the typical black crud buildup on the chain (and my leg)...  http://www.whitelightningco.com/products/index.htm   We'll see what happens...

What's the difference in the various flavors of Rock 'n' Roll lubes, been using Gold for several years, and I'm very happy with the results.

Take Care,
Nelson.

White Lightning was one of my sponsors when I rode across America, they gave me a case of it to use. It collects the road crude and throws it off the chain in little dirty pieces sometimes on my legs but most of the time on the bike. In the hot sun it can get very dry and reduce the shifting performance. A good rain shower will wash it off till the chain will actually start squeeking. When applying it you have to drown the chain in order to get it into the plates so it doesn't go very far. Some where in Kansas there is five bottles of White Lightning in a ditch.

Rock 'n' Roll Gold works best for me.

I didn't like the White Lightning, either, or any of the other wax based lubes I tried, for that matter. I have no idea why they always advertise the wax based lubes as clean or dry. They're neither.

But everyone has their own thoughts on chain lube, it seems. You just have to experiment and see what you like.

The only place I have used WL and liked it was on my show bike that was mainly ridden indoors, from the door to the place where I set up my show display. The main reason I used it was it didn't attract dust (dusty chains are point deductions) and it left the shiny chain links still shiny, which Pro Link didn't do. PL changes the color of plated chains.

I ride my bike to ride my bike, and sometimes it takes me where I need to go.

Hmmm... perhaps I'll take the still-unopened bottle back to PCF and exchange it, after those ringing non-endorsements!!!  'preciate the feedback, folks!!!

I use Clean Ride and like it if that means anything, chain was a lot dirtier using anything else. Why don't you try the bottle and see how it works? You can always go back later if it doesn't work out

I've tried a bunch of different ones, and so far they all do nothing for chain cleanliness.

OK, got the chain degreased, and have applied the "Clean Ride"... we'll see if I notice any difference, in any particular way, noise, cleanliness, or otherwise...
