New Years Day LSR Pop and 200K
Dec 29th, 2009, 9:27am

All are welcome to ride with the Lone Star Randonneurs (aka LSR) for their annual New Year's Day ride and celebration!

Two rides are offered:
1. 100km (62 miles) starting at 10:00 am - route goes from Arlington to Venus, TX and back - NO membership with any group is required - later start means it will be warmer (hopefully!)
OR
2. 210 km (130.5 miles) starting at 07:00 am - route goes from Arlington to Italy, TX and back -membership with Lone Star Randonneurs is required ($25 annually), and lights/reflective gear are required since sunrise is at 7:31 am (and warm gear too - 7:00 am may be ch-ch-chilly!)

This is a great introduction to the Lone Star Randonneurs, meet some new faces, and maybe test the long distance waters for anyone interested. If you would like credit for the ride with RUSA, you are welcome to join RUSA for $20 (you receive interesting newsletters and a booklet about long distance cycling) but again, not mandatory.

The main requirements for this ride are:
Sign the waiver
Wear a helmet
Night/reflective gear and lights if riding before after sunset (required for 210 km riders)
Carry a control card and have it signed at the designated stops (we will help with that, it is easy)

RSVP, even if you are only halfway interested, so that we have enough cards and food

More details:
DATE: Friday, January 1st, 2010
TIME: 07:00 AM departure for 210km; 10:00 am departure for 100 km (please arrive early enough to be ready)

LOCATION: Both rides start and finish at Dan Driscoll's house: 2811 Hollywood Drive, Arlington TX 76013.

PACE: Everyone may ride at their own pace, or with a group as they like. The only qualification is that there is both a minimum and maximum speed (9.3 - 21 mph) average that must be maintained. The ride is non-competitive and all finishers from first to last are given equal recognition.
WEATHER: Let's hope for cooperative conditions, but we depart as scheduled regardless of temperature or conditions
LIGHTING: Riders who might be riding after sunset are required to have at least one front and two rear lights (all working), reflective ankle bands, and a reflective sash or vest
ROUTE: 210km travels from Arlington to Italy, TX and back . 100 km travels from Arlington to Venus, TX and back.

RSVP: Please respond on this forum, or to me (Sharon Stevens) at smst199@yahoo.com or my cell at 214-797-1730.

POTLUCK: After-ride party at Dan Driscoll's house with black eyed peas, meatballs, and other tasty treats! Feel free to bring your own favorite dish or dessert to share, but not mandatory.
UPDATES: There is ongoing discussion of this annual LSR event on their website, and it is a good idea to check for any last minute info: http://groups.google.com/group/Talk2LSR
or go to the LSR site: www.lonestarrandon.org
RUSA INFO: RUSA main site http://www.rusa.org/ and official rules for the ride can be found at http://www.rusa.org/brvreg.html

Any questions, please let us know. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
We are looking forward to seeing y'all there!

I'll be joining the 100 k populaire. It looks as though it will be a really nice day, sunny without much wind.
