Need Info About Trinity Trails

I have some friends who have recruited me to help plan a Catrike Rally in Dallas on March 13 & 14. They know they want to ride White Rock on Saturday but are interested in a second ride on Sunday. It has to be away from WR because of a half marathon that day. Can any of you, who have experience with the Trinity Trails, give me some ideas of possible routes? I have not ridden on any of them myself but from what I've seen, they meet the requested criteria: paved, few hills, reasonable length without repetition. Any thoughts?

The Trinity trails HAVE to be out-and back, but depending on the terrain you want, I can help you out with whatever distance and fun level you'd like. I can SHOW them to you if you come to the rbent picnic on Oct. 4. the Trails are flat as a pancake except for the crossovers which are steeper but ridiculously short. I'm happy to help with anything you need if you want to chat by phone or meet some time you're out here or whatever you'd like.

No need for guilt. Its a great suggestion. I've seen the trails for years, just never ridden on them. And yes, restaurant info is ALWAYS appreciated.

Thanks! I am planning to come to the rbent picnic ( keeping fingers and toes crossed for no last minute conflicts) and would love to find some good routes to propose to the trike group. We have one member who is vision, as well as, hearing impaired. Her preference is flat smooth trails, little climbing with few obstructions. I'm trying to find a ride that is scenic for everyone else, while maximizing her opportunity to ride. Distance of 20 - 30 miles would probably be optimum. We will definitely have to talk at the picnic.

Not a bad idea but these folks are dead set on riding at White Rock, plus some of them really don't want to ride on roads. Since there is a race the next day, that should help reduce some of the runners. Everyone seems to be okay with the idea of sharing the space. Unfortunately there is not a great selection of trails available in the area that are not also busy with runners and other folks on the weekends.

If you could join us on one of our regular Thursday evening rides (see "Upcoming Rides" section of forum, second listing from the top) I could show you pretty much the entire trail system from downtown Fort Worth. Usually we ride from downtown FW to Benbrook lake trailhead, 22.5 miles round trip. As Greg mentioned, the only parts not flat as a board are where the trail crosses under a couple of roads, and the ramp leading down to and up from the river crossing. After the river crossing you'd be on a well marked bike lane along a wide Bellaire drive, that has little car traffic and lots of cyclists, so cars are used to sharing the road. Another trail heads off of Bellaire after only a mile or two, ending up at the Benbrook trailhead. If you didn't want to cross the river, you could return to downtown for something like 16 miles round trip. If the person with vision impairment can see lines on the road, he/she should do OK for the entire route. There are lots of smaller segments to the trail system going off in many directions, but this is the longest continuous route.

I love my kids but I'll be SO glad when they can drive. I'm still going to shoot for the rbent picnic but if it EVER stops raining I'll probably slip over during the day after the kids are at school.

Thats usually an issue during the mornings not afternoon and evenings, especially on the west (fast) side

Ah, but they DO ride. My daughter has a mountain bike and my son, a trike. The timing and distance on most of their after-school activities generally precludes riding as impractical plus, for any distance riding, they are required to have a least one parent along. Smiley
