So I have a screw loose.
Sep 3rd, 2009, 8:20pm

Like that's news to anyone......

I was whining Saturday about my foot hurting just to put on my shoes, and that it got worse of course as the day wore on.  Foot hurt still the next day, and hurt to stand on Monday and more on Tuesday.  Tuesday night I had a jolt of fire when I bent down to scratch and I felt a big knot.  Looking at it made me thing that I had broken my foot and the bone was pushing up through the skin.  This is my reconstructed foot.

Turns out instead that a screw has backed out of my reconstructed foot - no wonder it was hurting.  Hopefully surgery is next Friday.  TTTT may be out, but if it is, I'll be there crewing for anyone and everyone who needs it.

Greg, I'm sorry to hear about the foot. I was hoping(as I know you were as well) that the surgery would have been a little more successful so you wouldn't have to do this again. Keep your spirits up.

The main this is your health , there will be other Ultra distance events. I can't believe you didn't throw an embolism(from the screw backing out) & have major health problems.

Keep us posted on any news, & let us know if there's anything we can do.

Oh they know of my displeasure, but apparently this is a thing that sometimes happens.  The screw is no longer needed anyway, and recovery will be quick, just potentially not quick enough.

But hey, at least I'll be a couple grams lighter now.   Smiley

True, you'll be lighter, but you'll always have a screw loose.  Smiley

I was whining

I've been around some of you whiners. The ones that break titanium screws and crush carbon-graphite cages into little splinters inside of them and say "Doc, it hurts a little"... I even drove screws into my older brother's skull once and he didn't mind it at all.

Greg, if Doc says you can race, we'll go for broke, and if you can't, well you've already done far more than we could anyway. Take care.

My condolences, Greg. I know how much hardware problems can hurt, especially sticking into things they are not supposed to stick into Smiley

I hope the healing is quick enough to let you do whatever you want to do on TTTT day (weekend)

Maybe they could use a really strong magnet, and noninvasively screw it back in...

Sorry to hear this, pal, but life gets in the way sometimes.  There will be other races, to be sure!   Smiley

You been hanging around Seguin recently?  I found a screw in my back tire today.  Phillips head.

Hope your foot heals fully and quickly.

Greg,
Good luck with surgery!  With 10 srews from the knee down, I'm really hoping you keep the loose screws to yourself.
