Bud thanks so much for volunteering to pick up.  I will be in touch when I know more.  Its a 50 mile drive for me.
And Paul I think you are correct.  I am currently planning to wait until the weekend before the race to mark the course, and then  
go back the Sunday after and paint over the marks.  We are actually going to try to put down paint with reflective beads in it, so the markings should be very visible.

I would only need 2 stencils  I was thinking 6" high letters and a directional  
arrow.  That is not so big that I think somebody will get irate, but should be

Is the course on County roads or state highways?  
Probably county roads and if that is correct Somervell County officials would appreciate being advised--I can put you in touch with someone if you want.  Seems like that would be a great goodwill gesture.
 
 I understand that somone had a ride here a few years ago and they marked up the county roads pretty good.  I saw the signs for several years. The ride was for experienced riders but the signs were such as--in front of a cattle guard --cattle guard ahead--walk your bike (not needed I ride over it all the time), or you can ride your bike across this cattle guard--hill ahead--, nice scenic spot here---look through the trees  at the river on the left arrows pointing--etc.,turn right or left plus several arrows.
 
 By the way we have 2 weekly newspapers and a bikeshop and I imagine that they all would be receptive to getting the word out about the more than usual bicycle traffic. Sherriff's office probably could help too.

Just wanted to throw a quick shout out there.  Powerbent called me today to offer his services for us during the Texas Time Trials.  I know we could use more.  With so many of us who are doing this crazy thing, we need people around to tell us to eat, drink, and basically listen to us whine and complain the whole night.  Help us find stuff we need, fill water bottles, and a lot of thankless jobs.   It can always be done with little support, but I've been amazed at how much difference the "Pit Crew" makes.
 
If you're interested, I'm sure we can use you.  if not, the Time Trial folks themselves are always in need of volunteers.  It would be great for the bent community to get out there and be seen helping out.  How about it?
