Agreed, it was a great turnout(the hide host mentioned 28 riders ,with a few no-shows). There were several 'bents among the group(always good to see).
I started out riding with Bud, but after a couple recent <100% training rides ,I kicked it up(sorry Bud). I like this route, although there's a fair amount of chip seal(IMO).
Uneventful, but good ride. I did hear of one crash, but I believe the tandem rider was OK. Upon my return to Princeton(from Tom Bean), I encountered one of the new cyclist to join the ride. This was his first LSR/RUSA event. He had made to Westminister ,but apparently had become lost & turned around, Had he kept going on the road he was on, he would have been fine.
Congratulations to Hurricane Dan for his longest ride to date on his recently purchased bike. When I saw the Vision in the parking lot(beofre the ride) with those HED wheels, I had to do a double take. I thought John Sadowski was joining us. Dan rode well, especially for his first real test on the bike. AND he's coming back for more next Sunday.
It was nice to see Lynn Morrow again. Like that bike, Lynn
Lunch afterward at Subway was fun, however, a bit nerve racking as a tanker truck at the convenience store had blocked parking lot. So anyone wanting to leave the store couldn't leave without quite a bit of maneuvering. Well, it just so happened that the pick-up was trying to get out & avoid the tanker AND BUD'S roaster on the carrier at the same time. After several tense moments/close calls , the pick up avoided Bud's bike & the tanker truck, then proceeded to come into the store & yell at the clerk "that's illegal!"(referring to a tanker truck filling up underground gas tanks during business hours). Too funny.
Bud ,check the roadster for collision damage.
Thanks for everyone coming & sharing the fun & the road hosts did a fantastic job as always.
