Sometimes your the windshield...
Jun 28th, 2009, 11:25am

So Tom (powerbent) and I met up this morning at RBM riding up from our respective domiciles and spun down to Anderson-Bonner where I saw a recumbent on the trail up ahead.  I caught up with the gentleman (thin guy, maybe in his 60's with a grayish beard) who said his name was Jeff Weiss.  He has a red, USS Vision R40 and said he had ridden with some RBENTers a couple years back, but has been out of the game for a couple years due to some sort of injury.  I told him he was welcome to visit us on the forum here and them turned back to see what happened to Tom.  Jeff and I had been riding at a pretty slow pace and he should have caught up.  I found him back in the parking lot of Anderson-Bonner looking at his bike, Huh which is never a good sign.  When I got back he said the seat was sitting up too straight but couldn't figure out what was causing it.  I mentioned that the chain was now rubbing the seat frame and when he looked down, he saw the broken frame.  cry  So Tom is now out of the game until he can find another ride.  If anyone has a lead on something, I'm sure he would appreciate you letting him know.

zomg. That is scary crazy or perhaps crazy scary. I'm glad he didn't get hurt when that happened and had pulled over to look at his bike. I'll keep my eyes out for a local ride and probably avoid those potholes a little more or cringe when I hit one.

I'm not sure . I thought of fixing it but thought it would move the stress point and break again.

It can be fixed with a doubler and some lap welds. Smiley The tricky part would be getting it straight without tearing it in two Smiley And of course the payload would have to be reduced to make it safe. And you know what that would require. Smiley Well maybe not that, but something almost as painful. Grin Smiley dieting.

Steel frame right?

If you're not in a hurry, I can fix it.    I'm sure it'd be stronger in that spot, but not sure where it'd go next.   Ideally, I'd overlap the stressed area by 3-4 inches on each side of it and stitch it up the whole length so that in that area, it's double wall.         You're on your own for paint, I'd clean off where I'd weld and prime it when done.    I'm sure you can find some yellow paint that's close to the PC color.

When I say, not in a hurry,  I'm currently working 70+ hours per week, so it'd be a matter of finding 15 minutes every few days till I got done.    (and getting my mood right)
