Cross Timbers Classic Anyone? *hide* (May 16)

http://www.cross-timbers.org/index.php
There is a different route which heads completely to the north of the speedway this year and hopefully they'll be directing traffic in the speedway correctly this go around. Lots of construction which is now finished so alot of the route is pretty new.

It would be better for me if it was the same route so I could see if myself or the bike had any improvement but I may go if there aren't any 200 or 300ks around.

Yup - I remember that moment as if were yesterday. I led you and Bud around the right hand turn out of the speedway.  I have no idea why I missed the grate, and an instant later I hear "pop" and then another "pop".   I slam on the brakes, look back and Bud's wheel is taco'd, and your whole front end is practically shredded carbon fiber-glass

It didn't sound like "pops" to me. More like TNT. Although two of or brethern had very bad days, the ride is very good and I would recommend it for any one - just be very carefull coming off of the track.

Smiley It's only bad if you  accidently take a wrong turn   Smiley leaving the speedway  Smiley The organizers ought to buy you a new frame since they failed to mark the turn where everyone coud see the signs ahead of time. The rest of us were very sad to see you and Bud walking back to your cars.

I would like to give it another shot if Eddie and or Dianna go. I'll ride the Cycle Genius it's pretty tough.
The ride was fun and we didn't get zapped during the rain storm we rode through  Smiley

Yep ,I'm done with this ride as well. Not to mention the lap around the track fiasco ,the return trip north of Ponder was a disaster with the cops  allowing some cyclists to turn & other not to turn ,poorly marked routes,etc...

Hm.. Well it looks like I may be trying my first century on a road bike. I think I did a ~100k on a hybrid about 6 years ago but that was when I was in alot better condition.
The route up north is alot less scenic and pretty then the route then went out east from the speedway. Plus I could take a break at my house halfway last year  Wink

I went out for about 35 miles on the road bike last night and it was a huge beat down. The group I was with averaged 17+mph on a decently hilly route. I don't even know if I got halfway through it before I was saying WHY????? I am able to push my heart rate alot higher easier and longer on the road bike then on my Hurricane. I think my average on that ride was more then my high is normally on the hurricane.

That's typical.  Bents are more efficient.

I think this has less to do with efficiency of the bike and more to do with alignment of your head and feet with respect to the big gravity producing ball we reside on.  I'm also in DF training mode, as I seem to be going to do a century on the velodrome at the end of the month. Time to retrain (punish?) my butt.

Take Care,
Nelson.

That's a common theme you'll find among people who ride both recumbents and uprights. You'll have a higher max heart rate and can produce more watts on the upright, but it takes less watts to get the same speed on a recumbent.

Most people who ride both a lot end up with better speeds on hilly rides on the upright and better speeds on flat rides on the recumbent.
