When I was in the Army I could drink coffee and go to bed.
Now I can only drink one cup of regular coffee in the morning. After that it is decaff.
Doctor told me that it builds up over the years and when you get older you become sensitive to caffeen.

Opus, you missed one, to be the ultimate coffee hound you would have needed to have been in the military before being a computer geek (or both at the same time).

26l01, tactical microwave communications repair. I fixed the phones between the switchboard and the satellite. I always had the mid shift. But that was during the first term of the Reagan administration. I didn't get the computer geek job until the last term of the Clinton administration.

I seem to remember a Bicycling magazine article from years ago about the impact of caffiene on cyclists.  If I remember right, it was pretty positive about it.  I think some energy bars contain significant amounts of caffiene because of that.

I read that to get the maximum benefit from caffeine in a race you need to abstain for 3-6 months prior.
I just can't go without my coffee!!!

Abstaining probably makes a BIG difference.  Ever since I stopped drinking soda, I lost my caffeine tolerance.  If I put coffee in my water bottle, I'd have to attach a tube to something else!   Smiley  Now I wonder if anyone's tried that on the RAAM.

Yup, and I did it at Sebring, but didn't do it right.  I had backflow.  Not fun!   Smiley

Coffee is great, Peggy. Mine is fresh-ground and black. Used to use a French press until I found out that using the paper drip filters would improve my cholesterol numbers. Sacrificed the flavor for my heart!  The pains of passing years, ugh!  embarrassed

When I do the clown ride I do not eat or drink before leaving the parking lot at LBJ.  It is hard to get my heart rate much over 110.
After I stop at Barbecs and drink two cups of coffee it is hard to get my heart rate under 130.

Are you sure that's not from the cholesterol?

The only thing that really wakes me up lately is the clicking of strap on my road shoes. Without it I'm really groggy all day long. Smiley

I loved that about commuting.  I always felt best on the days I commuted, even though It was only a half hour ride.
