Texas rules re. hitch trailers
Apr 8th, 2009, 4:21pm

I'm thinking about getting a sunlite hitch trailer so I can take my bike to participate in rides all over Texas.  My goal for this summer is to ride in Hotter than Hell!

One thing I heard about in another forum was that it may be not legal in certain states to use a hitch trailer if the bike extends and covers part of the area behind the rear view mirrors?  I'm pretty sure the bike esp. a recumbent would extend a little past the sides of the car, but I don't anticipate getting close enough to scratch other cars.  It will be in the field of view a bit...

Has anyone been pulled over for this reason?   Or received a warning?  I'm planning to stay in Texas and do most of my rides here, so I'm not too worried about other states.
The less convenient alternative is to fold down all the seats, remove the front tire to put the bike in.

Anyway, I hope to get to meet some of you at the Hotter than Hell ride.
