lancaster rally pre-ride, tomorrow (3/21) 9AM
Mar 20th, 2009, 5:49pm

The GDB'ers are doing a pre-ride of the rally route tomorrow (3/21).  I'm planning to go, to probably do the 42 mile version.  Per the caveats below, anybody want to come out to join me?
Paul

Here's the email on it:

This weekend, we’re planning to do a Lancaster Rally route pre-ride….The Airport Ride will still be on also, and I’ll send a separate note about that later.

The pre-ride will depart 1st Baptist Church south parking lot at 9am promptly on Saturday, March 21.

The Lancaster pre-ride is a fun ride, but it’s very demanding, so let me outline some guidelines…

62 mile route:
1.) The 62 mile ride is tough….long, lots of hills, etc. The group that is riding it has a purpose: Cover the entire route, and note trouble for the Counties to repair before rally day.
2.) This is a fast ride…the riders on this route should be capable of holding a near 17mph average, even WITH the hills and starting and stopping.
3.) This is basically a ‘drop’ ride….If you can’t hold the pace of this working ride, plan another ride, or you’ll be out there alone….The group won’t leave mechanicals behind, but don’t plan on the group waiting for you after every climb….
4.) There are very few rest stop opportunities on this route, so please plan accordingly.
5.) This group would like to be back around 1:30 or so…

42 mile route:
1.) This route is almost as tough, just not as long.
2.) Pace is usually 16-17mph….
3.) This will be a ‘drop’ ride also…see above. Don’t plan on the group waiting much….
4.) Again, not much out there for rest stops, so please plan ahead.
5.) This group should be back at the start around 12pm.

20 mile ride:

1.) Piece of cake…! If you have not been out much this year, this is a good ride..Pretty, scenic, and hilly enough to remind you why you need to ride more…Wink
2.) Our Rally Director Tawnia Wise is planning to ride this route, and she needs some company…
3.) This will be a 14-15mph ride, and I think Tawnia will wait for you, if you fall behind….
4.) Not much rest stop opps on this route either, but hey, it’s only 20 miles….;~
5.) This group should be back at the start around 10:45-11am or so.

Let us know if you’re coming…..the rides will start promptly at 9am…

This was definitely as advertised, a no-nonsense 17-18 mph haul...  42 miles was enough for me, even with 2nd half tailwind -- I don't even have 1,000 miles yet this year so far!!!  However, the bluebonnets are definitely coming out, and the route's in good shape...   Smiley
