GDB Lancaster Rally, April 11
Feb 8th, 2009, 8:22am

Just some advance notice -- The Lancaster Rally ride is April 11th, the Saturday of Easter Weekend this year.  We've had some very nice 'bent turnout in recent years!!!   Smiley Smiley  I believe that this is also considered an "MS150 training ride"...

<<Make plans to enjoy a fabulous day of Texas springtime cycling in the luscious and calm countryside south of Dallas! For the 11th consecutive year, the Greater Dallas Bicyclists, together with the City of Lancaster, is staging the Lancaster Country Ride on Saturday, April 11, 2009 at 9 am. Lancaster is a mere 15 minutes from downtown Dallas.

Join us as we cycle through the scenic countryside of Lancaster and surrounding areas. The routes traverse a variety of terrain, from flats to rolling hills, with a few challenging climbs. Rest stops every 10 or 12 miles with water, sports drink, fruit, etc. The wildflowers are typically in full bloom in April and our routes feature picturesque meadows with dense concentrations of Bluebonnets, Indian Paintbrush, and other colorful spring flowers.

Start/Finish: On-site registration and breakfast begins at 7 am. Ride starts at 9 am from the gazebo in the historic Lancaster town square off Main Street and Dallas Avenue. After the ride, stick around with other cyclists to enjoy the festivities on the square.

Mileage options: 23, 42 and 63 miles, staggered start for safety. We have scouted and ridden the routes to ensure smooth roads and scenic countryside for all bicyclists to enjoy. The 42 and 63 mile options take you directly through the Bluebonnet Trial on beautiful and hilly Sugar Ridge Road.

NOTE:  GDB requires helmets to be worn during the ride.

Price: $20 for pre-registration (postmarked by March 25th), and $25 thereafter .

Breakfast: Come early to purchase ($6) pancakes, sausage, coffee and juice from the Boy Scouts. They will be at the First United Methodist Church, 201 South Dallas Avenue, across the street from the town square starting at 7am.

Directions to Ride: To get to the start from I-20, take exit #470 and go south on Lancaster Rd (Hwy 342). Lancaster Rd becomes Dallas Ave. Continue 4.5 miles to the town square.>>

It sounds good I have ridden the Tour Dallas the last three years I think it's time for a change.

Oh, it's DEFINITELY a change from Tour Dallas...  It'll challenge you -- the last ~18 miles of the ~42 and ~60 mile versions are somewhat hilly, and typically into the (north) wind...   But it's a GOOD challenge, and it's not a race...

LOL You guys are coming to my little city huh. Yeah I did'nt get to work it last year I was on duty. I worked it the year before and had to get my front squad to speed up as the riders were bunching up behind him. We usually lead it out of town then the race producers take over. Get there early there is a heck of a turn out and limited parking. It is hard to believe that Lancaster is as rough as it is because the south side of town is so pretty. We do have a new court building where my office is just west on RedBud that would be good to park at. There are two parkinglots and we are not there on weekends. Actual address is 220 W. Main, Lancaster TX, 75146, if you are going to google it.

Didn't know you were employed in that fashion, KJ...  the GDB definitely appreciates everything the City does to help the Rally!!!!  I typically work one of the rest stops -- this year it will probably be #2.

If I am asked to work I may just have to slide down to rest stop two and visit. Back when I was losing all my weight I got much ridicule for rolling around on my trike and or road bike with my sexy spandex on. LOL

Hey, Peggy --
Would Thingy's Sporting Goods be interested in adding a "% off" coupon to our goodie bag for the Lancaster Rally?  We would need 1200 of them, before March 29th....

The 10-day ahead weather forecast looks promising at the moment, for the Lancaster Rally...

http://www.greaterdallasbicyclists.com/

Unfortunately, I won't be working a rest stop after all this year, something's come up.  However, I'll probably be doing some sort of other job in the Lancaster Square leading up to the ride start, so I'll keep my eyes out for the 'bent crew!!!!!!!  I'll also be doing pre-reg packet pickup duty at PCF on Thursday the 9th from 4 to 7.

Peggy, all the packets have been stuffed already...  too late for Thingy's, this year.
