100k LSR Populaire February 1

Who is planning on riding the 100k Populaire this Sunday?  The ride starts at 8:45am from RBM in Richardson.  Angie is planning on riding as this will be her first LSR event, and long ride.  I'm still way behind where I should be due to my recent surgery, so I will enjoy a slow, conversational pace 100k with my wife.

Am I hearing that you JUST got your hamstring reattached and you're planning on doing a 100k this weekend?  Cleared with doc and physical therapist, yes?

I am considering going, depends on how I feel since I have the creeping crud.  I'd be happy to ride with Angie at her pace in your stead if it helps.  Just let me borrow the x-stream Smiley

I'M NOT  PLAYING POSSUM THIS TIME, but nice picture Mark.

Mark can attest to my riding yesterday.  It was horrible.  I was sucking wind going up the infamous "hilltop" in Argyle and most of the rest of the ride I was off the back.  Mark joined Angie, our friend Amanda and Ron from our Flower Mound club, and Amy from our MS150 team.  Angie, Amy and Amanda had never ridden 100k before.  Mark absolutely kicked my butt all day long.  On every climb he flew by me like I practically standing still.  I'm very proud to see Mark's cyclilng improving.  And to help Amy, Amanda and Angie complete their first 100k was equally awesome.  Mark probably finished 10 miles ahead of me!!!!  Way to go Mark!

My achilles didn't hurt, but I'm certainly not in cycling shape at the cardiovascular or physical level.  I need to work really hard these next six weeks to be ready, and back to 100% by Hell Week.

I was pretty worn out yesterday but had a burst or two of energy. I rode an average of 5 miles a day mon-tue after CheeburgerCheeburger handed me one on Sunday and then 3 days in a row of 50+ miles RT commuting followed by about 40 miles on Saturday. Wet cold potentially iced roads are going to keep me off for a few days so it'll probably not be till thursday till I get to 1k for the year.

I emailed you the ride log but here are the stats I had recorded from leaving downing to when y'all rolled in a few minutes later.
Total Time (h:m:s)      6:26:28
Moving Time (h:m:s)      4:24:58
Distance (mi )      62.06
HR: 117 average, 150 max

On a 25 mile Joe Pool dam ride I did last Wednesday, I had an average heart rate of 153 bpm to do an 18.8 mph average on the bike. That's a higher average heart rate than Mark's max heart rate on the ride he just posted .... sheesh.  Me thinks I have to work way to hard to go down the road with a little speed...

My average was 14mph moving the additional 4+mph or so would probably push my HR up a lot. I spun really up hilltop in my lowest gear so kept my hr pretty low rather then try and push up it faster.

Bud -

Mark, who I now call "Man'amal" had a 14 mph average because he kept rolling at 2mph waiting for me, Angie and the other two girls I was helping complete thier first 100k.  That's also why Man'amal's heart rate was so low.  Anytime I tried to sprint, Man'amal shot passed me like I was walking.

Regarding his "hilltop" comment he was so far ahead of me, I didn't see him climb it.  My guess is that since he lives within 5 miles of hilltop that he is doing hill repeats as an awesome training tool.
