Searching for a mountain bike mechanic. One who has the tooling to do fork and drivetrain upgrades and replacement.
 
Many local bike shops quite frankly are wanting to charge a lot for labor for upgrading older bikes. Now, I understand that nobody is in the "starvation business", but I am sure there are some well qualified people out there working out of their garage without the same overhead costs.
