Out and around
Nov 16th, 2008, 4:56pm

Just went out by myself this afternoon, doing my Rowlett - Sachse loop...  On the way out, I thought, "should I bother to take my camera... naaah....... oh, heck, why not"... Roll Eyes

So, I had an uneventful ride up to Sachse, just enjoying the tailwing and anticipating the headwind going back south -- when I get up to my turnaround point, and I see a guy walking what looks like a recumbent of some sort through a large grassy corner lot...  So I wheeled over and said hi...

This is Keith and his EZ-1, that he's had for about 4 years, and who is down about 40 pounds so far...

I gave him one of my RBENT cards, so he might say hi here somewhere...

So, I turned into the headwind, and headed South.  I went up Dump Hill, and shortly encountered a dozen or so PBA riders going the opposite direction approaching the downhill, waving and saying hello...

I then got caught at a long light at 190 and Castle, and when I eventually could cross, I saw a DF rider coming up behind me -- so I slowed down, and asked him where he was headed -- he replied "Sachse" which was weird, because we were going SOUTH, away from Sachse...  I said, "I'm headed home, to Rowlett"  To which he replied, "Cool... see ya..." and attempted to PULL AWAY AND LEAVE ME BEHIND...  tsk, tsk, tsk...   [just a lesson to any DF riders out there -- never say "see ya" and attempt to drop a 'bent rider when riding INTO THE WIND...  Roll Eyes ]   So, I quickly pulled even again, and mentioned that I had just seen the PBA group heading towards Dump Hill -- he said, "Are you with PBA?"  I replied, "No, GDB and RBENT....   SEE YA!!!!!!"   And I believe I caught a look of surprise on his face in my mirror as I pulled away, never to see him again...   Wink

Then as I got close to home, I came up on Rowlett Rd, with a lot of cars backed up at the intersection...  I pulled up to the corner, and there were HUNDREDS of motorcycles going down the street, with police escort.  So, I caught some video -- at the 25 second point, you can see MICKEY MOUSE go by...

This was apparently a "Cops for Kids" toy drive, with motorcycle-riding policemen from all around the area riding together through Richardson and Rowlett.  Pretty cool...

Moral of the story:  ALWAYS take your camera!!!!

Thats one of the reasons why I bought an iPhone, not the best camera inside but it works well for stuff like this. Only bad thing is it doesn't do video
