August 2nd LSR 200k and 300k brevets
Jul 28th, 2008, 10:07pm

This coming Saturday, August 2nd, the Lone Star Randonneurs are having 200k and 300k brevets that start in Italy at 6:30 am. You can find more info here.

These routes are fairly flat, with no really tough hills, and all the control stop stores have tables inside for sitting and cooling off. I plan on riding the 200k brevet.

Do the 300 man!!  Just make sure you only map the 300 in your Garmin, then it's settled!!

I'll be there for the 300.

sweet dude.  If I have someone I know I can ride with who'll pace me as well as you do, that helps.   It's good to have someone at your back who can haul your carcass off the road if you faint Smiley

RUSA membership is required for this 200k.

Speaking of RUSA, here's their definition of randonneuring: Randonneuring is long-distance unsupported endurance cycling. This style of riding is non-competitive in nature, and self-sufficiency is paramount.

So, if you dnf, you're on your own...

Is LSR membership also required? I had sent one in but it got returned because I didn't finish the address and I think just never bothered to send it again. However they just finally cashed my RUSA membership check after 3 months so maybe I did? *shrug*

Like Bud said.  I DNFed last year on this exact ride and ended up having to call Alexis to drive 1.5 hours to get me.  On Rando rides you need to:

1.  be fit enough to pedal 130 miles.  In the heat.  And chipseal.  With no shade on this particular route.
2.  Be able to do the ride by yourself if need be.
3.  Know your body enough to know how to hydrate and feed yourself for this kind of ride.
4.  carry as much as you can to ensure you can fix it yourself if something happpens on a brevet.

I honestly don't think this is the ride for you, Terry.  You need to have a few centuries under your belt before attempting this.  But I am positive you'd be ready to do some fall 200ks for sure!

I need to see if I can get some spokes before I even consider it and figure out how to register with LSR by saturday.

My new wheels won't seem to take fiberfix spokes and will probably taco if I break a spoke and try and ride it.

My only century is the 200k a few months ago but there wasn't heat then. I am used to the heat from my commute and other rides so I don't think that would cause issues.

Registering would be easy - drop your check in the mail to dan and boom you're done!  It's pretty relaxed since you already ahve your RUSA number.

Does anyone have the cue sheet?  Its not on the LSR website.   And does anyone have a Garmin route file for the 200K.

Thank you Greg for the worthy advice I will be very very careful.  Its been my experience that as long as Im in decent shape then the extra miles are a matter of nutrition.  I can make it as long as I keep hydrated and energized.

I wont roll on this without a GPS mapping the route.  I dont think I have enough time to score a Garmin edge 705.  So Im looking into using my Smart Phone (a Samsung Blackjack II) running Garmin XT.   It should be able to read the standard Garmin Route files if someone made one.

Sincerely
Terry
