Derailleur roller life vs. chain/lube
Jul 17th, 2008, 1:59pm

OK, we've had various discussions about chain life, what (chain  Wink ) lubes people are using, etc....  but it occurred to me that I'm also running on the original rear DR on my SXP, what has those little cogged rollers spinning around -- granted, there's not a whole lotta tension/friction there, but when does one consider replacing THAT part of the bike???

I don't know about replacement due to wear, but I noticed the Deore XT I took off a MTB to put on the Corsa now has a crack that runs through it and likely needs to be replaced soon.  In the eighties I once replaced them with a set of Bullseye pulleys, anybody remember those?

Take Care,

Paul, I replace jockey wheels when shifting starts getting sketchy and changing everything else doesn't help, usually there are visible signs of being worn out (teeth almost imperceptible, missing teeth, chunks gone from side of pulley), or the wheel gets very sloppy on the derailler.

I ride my bike to ride my bike, and sometimes it takes me where I need to go.
