SPECIAL BICYCLES, INC. /FWBA EVENT

SATURDAY – JULY 19TH

CENTURY OF THE MONTH AND LESS RIDE and a
TOUR de FRANCE PARTY

It’s a once a year event, come on out and enjoy a party in honor of the Tour de France and a bike ride, all compliments of Bicycles, Inc.

It’s the “Century of Month and Less” ride for July, with all the usual distances available, plus a new, challenging 105 mile route that includes a climb up Mountain Peak, in honor of the mountain stages of the tour.

The day starts at 7:00 AM with a French breakfast of crepes, croissants, French Roast coffee, juice, and some other surprise delicacies.

At 7:30 AM, special recognition will be given to those who have participated in the 2008 Century of the Month and Less series, with the most frequent attendance and most miles ridden.  There will also be some “special” awards given out to those who have had some unique experiences and demonstrated some unusual skills at these events.  Door prizes will be given out throughout the day, so be sure and arrive early, and check when you get back from your ride.

At 8:00 AM, the rides will start from the store as usual.  Multiple SAG support vehicles will be providing support along the route.

Distances available to ride are: 10, 40, 60, 98, and 105 miles.

Upon your return to the store, a wide range of refreshments will be available, along with Tour de France coverage, and video highlights from past tours.

Be sure and come out to enjoy this once a year special event, and invite all of your friends.

The 10 mile route is a lightly traveled loop that stays mostly on neighborhood streets, so it’s ideal for families and casual cyclists.

The guy I rode with in Midland for years just moved to Fort Worth, so he, his daughter and I did the 40 miler on this ride.  I started feeling like cramps coming on after only 12 miles or so, and we weren't going hard at all.  One girl wasn't paying attention and drifted off the road and fell in front of me.  I stopped to help her out (she was fine, nice soft dirt and barely moving when she went over), but forgot to clip my water tube back to my jersey when I started off, so it wound up around the cassette and tore it up pretty good.  Fortunately had enough surviving tube I could just reach it over my shoulder.
Ended up with 37 miles at 15.3 average, which wasn't bad considering I was managing cramps almost the entire ride.  Nice folks to ride with.  I was the only bent.

Was it the tube or the casstte that got tore up?

I have a spare tube laying around, can't help with the cassette.

Plastic tubing loses out to steel cassettes every time!  Apologies for the unclear grammer.  I've got a tube from an old hydration pack that should work, but thanks for the offer.
