HHH '08 -- Ride Thread
May 14th, 2008, 9:50am

I'll be doing the 100 miler (OK, "Beer Stop 98" miler with a three mile chaser  Wink ) again this year, but am thinking of doing it a bit differently than my first couple of years.  The first year ('06) was basically just about survival and finishing in the 100+ degree temps, although I finished with an 18.5 mph average, which was my fastest century average to date.  Last year, ('07), with the cooler temps, Bud and I attempted a "hammer" ride (although we split up after RS3, and I caught him again before the beer stop), and I finished with a 20.5 mph average, breaking 5 hours of "bike time"...

But for this year, there have already been discussions of holding a "recumbent paceline demo," which I think is a pretty cool idea...  I'm even toying with the idea of using Terrie's Zzipper full fairing... So while we might still have a pretty fast bunch, it wouldn't be so much about trying to finish in a certain time or certain speed, as much as about keeping a group together for the whole way, and enjoying the experience -- not unlike what some of us did at Mesquite last year.

I certainly don't see myself attempting to set any new personal speed/time goals this year, but holding a fast group together the whole way could be fun.  At least to the Beer Stop!!!!!  ('cause I'm stoppin'!!!)  Grin

Just throwing it out there, for those who want to try to ride at 18+ as a group the whole way...

Well, depnding on fitness level, I hope to convince Mark to paceline with me this time around and finally complete that sub 5 hour century including all time.  Last year it was 4:45 bike time, but 5:15 total.  This time I'll be sucking down calories like there's no tomorrow, and wearing long sleeved SPF clothing..

If I can get my body in line again I think I can do it.  With the addition of the rear wheel cover to help me be more aero, and if I have a little break pacelining, and if the weather is under 100 degrees.

If, if, if..... Roll Eyes

I rode the HHH 100 the prior year.  I met many of the Team "Killer B's" Friday for a training ride. We then rode together at the 100 miler on Saturday.  It was a blast as I got to meet many of the Bacchetta Team racers I read about.

From the start, Schlitter led off at a brisk 27 mph pace. We were flying by the hundreds of people that start early.  I held on for about 15 miles then I coldn't keep up that pace.  Several of us that dropped back kept a brisk pace.  Ride time was around 4:30, with an avg. speed of 22.8.  Certainly my fastest century.

My goal is 4:15, but I might be with Angie's family on vacation at Red River NM.  However, if I can go to HHH, I'll ride a pacline with any of the performance oriented riders who are willing.

Im willing to join the group ride.   As long as we stop at Margaritaville.  Smiley  I might try to hang with Mark nd Greg until they drop me.  Then loyylygag until the group catches up to me.

I agree with Greg.  This depends on my fitness level.   One of my goals this year was to get good on the Baron.  I had a good start.  But Ive slacked off the past ew weeks.

I started a HnH100 thread on Bentrider Online in the events section:
http://www.bentrideronline.com/messageboard/showthread.php?t=39376
Maybe some of you could post a worthy message in the thread.  When the thread gets lively, I will post a promo in the general category linking back to the thread.

I have no idea what kind of shape I'll be in this year. I'll hang with a bent paceline as I can, but I may not be up to taking my share of pulls.

Holding her arms back like that, gravity is the reason her tan lines don't match....

Poor lady!  All she can afford is a second-hand swim suit and be forced to cut up her jeans!   Look the pocket is sticking out the bottom of those cut-up jeans!  The pocket is obviously empty.  No money!  Maybe she is looking for a sugar daddy among a throng of spandex clad men.
