Sunday in Mansfield...
Mar 9th, 2008, 7:55pm

Bud, Greg, and I got in a nice 40 miler today, departing from Bud's house.  He was on the Nimbus, Greg on the CAero, and I rode Rose's Stratus, as another test ride vehicle...   Heading out at 11AM, the weather was nice, and the temperature improved as the miles went by.  We rode for about 3-1/2 hours total, battling the south headwinds and enjoying the north tailwinds, and I got sunburned on my wrists, between my gloves and my sleeve end.

Thanks for the test ride, Rose -- the Stratus is definitely up there as a candidate bike for Terrie, even though I had to ride it with the seatback practically vertical...   Smiley

I'll post a few pics tomorrow...

Yes, it was the ride of the gimps: "Tailbone" Paul (from riding too upright for 40 miles), "Mangled Foot" Greg, and "Chemo Kid" Bud. But it was a fun ride, and I really enjoyed being able to get out and do 40 miles, today. Thanks y'all, for not dropping me like a bad habit on the ride. Wait......... maybe that's because I was the only one who knew where we were going....

I didn't realize just how sunny it was apparently - I look like a danged raccoon.   Angry

It was a great 40 miles.  I thought that first hill was gonna kill me, and I probably shouldn't have been pushing so hard on the pedals on a couple of those climbs, but I just couldn't help myself, apparently.  My foot feels ok though.  I'm exhausted and dehydrated still.

After leaving Bud's house I went home and grabbed my wife and our friend Tara and heaed back out to the Trinity trail intending to do 20-25 easy miles coasting along with them.  4.5 miles in though the cut in Alexis' tire expands to a full fledge hole all the way through and I spend the next 20 minutes cutting up the old tube as a boot and taping it down with electrical tape, and then breaking my speed lever trying to get it back on the rim.  Just as I am about to finish it up by hand (a first for me!) the rain came out of nowhere and chased us all the way home.  So I only gor in 8 miles, but hey 48 miles is still 12 more than my previous best this year.  I should be good for 60 next week!

At one point in the ride, two chihuahuas started chasing us, pacing us across a couple of open yards...  as we watched, the lead one hit a deep spot in the grass, and basically went butt-over-nose...  HILARIOUS.....   Next time chihuahuas chase me/us, I'm putting the camera into "video clip" mode as quickly as possible...

Here are some other shots from the afternoon:
