February 9th - Lone Star Ranndonneur Event
Jan 20th, 2008, 8:21pm

On February 9th, there is a 200k, 300k, and 400k Brevet starting in Italy, Texas:
http://lonestarrandon.tripod.com/brevet_schedule/2008/2008_brevet_schedule.html

An important note (Nelson, please note this...)

Only the 200k and 400k are ACP sanctioned events.  The 300k is a RUSA Brevet.  For anyone desiring to achieve the Super Randonneur distinction, they must be ACP sanctioned events.  This means that the Febuary 9th 300k DOES NOT COUNT TOWARDS THE SR AWARD.

Because of this, I'll only ride the 200k.

note to Nelson - be sure to tell Joey that you are going to ride an LSR event on February 9th, so if your new frame arrives, he will certainly work after hours to get it built for you.

I was kind of thinking that if I rode 86 miles on the 2nd, and felt fine, I might be ready to tackle this 200k on the 9th. But, it turns out that my chemotherapy will start on the 8th, so I think I'd better pass. Enjoy the ride, y'all.

It's going to be four rounds, three weeks apart. So, my last will be April 11th.

Bud,stay positive &  get back to riding ride when you feel up to it. The brevets,etc.., aren't going anywhere. Let Peggy or I know if there's anything we can do to help.

Yes the weather is looking quite nice, looks like this will be a great opportunity to get a long one in before it starts getting hot later in the Spring, so I'm planning on doing the 400K right now.  I'm working on Ray to do it with me, anybody else want to join us?

Hey Bud, are they putting you on a steroid during your Chemo Treatment, might be a good time to add some muscle mass!
My mother in law is currently going through treatment for Lymphoma, and the cycle with her is she actually feels pretty good the week of Chemo because of the steroid, its the week following treatment that she feels lousy.

Wishing you a quick recovery!

Take Care,
Nelson.

Considering where the VA Hospital is located, I don't think so. I'd have to have my 9mm in a holster on my hip to even consider it.

How many bents are we going to have at these Italy LSR brevets?

They are giving me some kind of drugs to take the three days following the chemo treatment, but I don't know what they are yet. Drugs to counteract the drugs that counteract the drugs, etc. Gotta love it......

Let's do it!  All I remember from last time is that I had another of those "tread separation" issues (that didn't blow out), and that the last 20+ miles were a tough series of rollers into a north wind -- let's hope for southerly breezes this time!

Nelson, I definitely agree with your 400K strategy -- get it knocked out in cool weather~!!!

Cool. The last time we rode this route with Bud in Oct-we averaged 16.6 mph. My bike ride time was 7hrs 54 mins. We were finished by 4 or 5 o'clock , then the 3 of went to Chili's afterward. I believe our threesome was one of the first of the 200K groups to finish.

I remember we started at 7:00 am & the wind was directly out of the south at about 20-25 mph & was getting worse as the day went on. We rode into the wind for about 30+ miles or so. Luckily,we caught a partial tailwind as we rode back to Italy & the temperature was getting a little toasty as well.

I've taken your advice. I now carry a folding tire on brevets.

Looks like a BEEyoooteeeefulllll day tomorrow for a long ride...  And with a tailwind for the return, no less...

I've printed up a few "larger font" cue sheets, for the visually challenged among us who are participating in the 200K...

Steve/Peggy, you still in?

There is an error in the downloadable 200K cue sheet, in an early section.  Line 11 of
the spreadsheet, at mile 18.6, says make a left on FM-744, and go 8.2
miles.  THis should say to go 0.5 miles, not 8.2, because the next
turn is at mile 19.1.

You guys blow my mind talking about riding 200K events  Wink
I'm tickled pink to ride my 25-35 mile rides. At least on the Tango, I can maintain 15-16mph on the straights between River Legacy Park and Village Creek. They haven't invented a drug yet that would make it possible to ride 200K in one day, but hey I can always keep hoping.
Have fun on your ride, I know I will as I putter around my apt and RLP.
