A 'bent rider is born
Aug 7th, 2007, 8:20am

Mrs. DB logged 1.1 miles last night on a borrowed Sun trike.  This is huge.  Long story short, she has nerve issues that jack up her back, neck, legs, etc.  Good days mean a cane, bad mean a wheelchair or walker.  No pain from the trike, and she really likes the downhills in my neighborhood.

Yes, I know...no helmet.  But, 5mph on a trike in my 'hood is pretty safe.  If we buy it, she gets a helmet, flag, bottle cage, etc.

She looks pretty comfortable. Let's hope the trike continues to agree with her. Welcome to the dork side, Mrs DB!

Glad it worked for you!!!  The "OSS" steering version is about ten pounds lighter, but she may like the lower steering position of the USX better.

Investing in some sandals with SPDs and the half-and-half pedals wouldn't be a stupid idea -- she'll find it helps with the pedaling, and keeps her feet on the pedals during bumps.

We had a lot of fun with the USX...  And I'll bet you find YOURSELF riding it on occasion...  Enjoy!

yep...some sort of clip system will definitely be part of it....once she gets used to not having them Wink

If I get her hooked, I'm covered for at least a B-Day, Christmas and the next anniversary!

The underseat steering really appeals, as having her arms up for an extended period would cause pinched nerves.  The medical issue she has causes some really weird things t happen, so this her trike may be exactly what we've been looking for.  A pool works too, but this is cheaper :0

Welcome the new rider!  It was my husband that got me started, now I don't want to stop.  Hope this enables her to ride without pain on the good days.  Who knows maybe this will help her to have more good days!  Awesome!

Well....the price tag is too high for her to be comfortable with, but she really likes the bike.

Are there any trustworthy used 'bent sites out there?  eBay only has one of these, and its 900, pickup in Colorado only.

Thanks,

DB

The guys sent me to Bent Rider On-line, Richardson's classifieds.  I also went to Hostle Shoppe classifieds and Crazy Guy on a bike classifieds.  Also, take a look at AmeriCruisers.  A friend has nerve issues and went to them.  Somehow, he got his medical insurance to help pay for part of the cruiser.

We sold ours last year to a couple where the guy was recovering from brain surgery, and wanted it for rehab purposes.  If I can get the contact info from John S. for who we sold ours to last year, you might be able to contact them to see if they're done with it...  I think we sold it to 'em for $500 (?).

John S?  From BikeMart?  I'd love to pick one up at that price...

I cheated her.  The 1.1 miles was actually 1.44.  I know, because we did it again tonight!  No stopping this time Smiley
