Sunday Mesquite Ride / funeral
Jun 4th, 2007, 11:51am

Did the GDB Sunday afternoon Mesquite Ride on 6/3, since the rain that came through at 8:30ish to wipe out the morning club ride...  P-38 rider Steve Switzer was along, after seeing him Saturday at the Rodeo Rally.

It was the typical split group hammerfest down to the 7-11 rest stop -- I wasn't sure I could keep the pace with a tight hamstring, but it held up OK, I wasn't too far behind the lead group.  Uniquely,  on the way back we made a stop at the New Hope church for the memorial/viewing service for Bob Carrathers, the 70-somethingg cyclist and ex-Mesquite policeman who had died during Thursday evening's Mesquite ride...  (Congenital heart valve issue, apparently).  His wife had asked us to please stop by, cycling gear and all, so we did...  it was a good thing to do, although I didn't know Bob personally.  It made for a unique scene, with over half the attendees in brightly colored spandex and barefooted...
