Had a nice thing happen on Sunday....
May 9th, 2007, 3:20pm

I rode with the Austin Cycling club on Sunday - a fast paced 50 miler.  Good group of people - very curious about bents, since they'd never had one ride with them, and were shocked when I was able to easily keep pace on the breakaways.  Kept giving me a hard time about the grass bring high enough to block the monster wind.   Grin

Anyway, there were two guys on a tandem who were hanging with the leader and I the whole way.  The stoker Said he had a rans screamer if I ever wanted to ride with him.  I replied that I'd try it, but after banging my knees up on an ez tandem I'd have to be the captain.  His buddy replied that I wouldn't have a choice.  I didn't know what he meant by that until we came to a rest stop and I saw the stoker was actually blind.

Turns out he competes in the tandem paralympics.  Made it to the world championships and has a bronze medal.  He and I are going to give it a go on Sunday when I'm back in Austin on the Armadillo ride, and he may ask me to pilot for him in the paralympics.  Wouldn't that be cool?
