Title: What an Greenspeed SLR looks like with clothes
Post by jrob_bent on Feb 27th, 2019, 9:39pm

I am hoping to have this fairing done by Friday. The nose has been changed just haven't taken a new picture of it. It takes a while to get in and out of it since the seat is only 4" of the ground with 20 degree seat recline. Hopefully will have the top on tomorrow.

Got the rear done and put a small window at the front bottom so I  can see potholes and cracks. Need to put one on the other side too. Hopefully I'll have the cockpit cover done tomorrow.

What will you use for glass in your smaller windows?

Thanks Tom. This summer I am building new 406mm wheels for it instead of these 349mm wheels for some ground clearance. When I do I will redo the nose to be slimmer and more aero. Can't do that now without changing the cranks down to about 90mm.

The PETG is already installed on all the windows. 0.040 is what I use. 0.030 is easier but cracks a lot easier too. 0.060 you have to use heat to shape.

Getting close to being finished.

Finished it this morning. i raised the bottom of each side by 3/4", painted the top of canopy silver flake, and attached the canopy. I'll cut some holes later for sliding windows to get some air in there. It is a very tight fit on me.

Jerry, are you going to Velcro some fender skirts on it to make it more aero, or would that restrict the steering?

Jay, I will use spandex wheel skirts as they will give when turning. I tried vinyl and coroplast. Of course I might try some of my PETG plastic also. I am making a removable aero nose for it too. I need it removable fro transporting it. I am also making some sliding windows on each side. I might also do like a velonaught driver did and drill a hole through the canopy and stick my snorkel tube through it to be able to breathe better. It will never be completely done! Always something to change to try and make it faster. Going out now for the first test ride. I have to pick a spot without dips so it doesn't bottom out!

It's a little rough around the edges, but it is about the best I can do with tap, zip ties, and coroplast.

Very aero looking, Jerry. Bet that's the fastest one you've built so far.

Thanks Jay. I hope it is fast! I'll find out tomorrow because I am too tired right now. As soon as the races were over Saturday I had all 3 grandkids until 7:30 pm and Sunday from 8 am to 6:30 pm. They think I am one of them! Ha

I couldn't wait any longer to see what it could do. It is fast. I am done with it though until I get the 406 wheels built. It is scary and kind of disheartening when it bottoms out on every small dip or uneven pavement. It is scary as hell when going 27-28 mph and it really bottoms out and almost throws you out of the fairing! It tore a big chunk of coroplast off the bottom and my head hit the canopy pretty hard. It is a fast little guy though.

When you put the 406 wheels on it put some Scorcher 120's on them. Will provide a better ride and the velo will be faster. Just put Scorchers on my Catrike Speed. Now, I really like the Speed.

I'll give the Scorchers a try when I get the wheels built. I need the rims and spokes as I have an extra set of drum brakes. The next week or so is going to be very busy planting new flower beds and replacing some dead shrubs along with a pallet of zoyzia sod to lay. I might just take everything to Cadence Cyclery and let them build them for me. I usually build my own but they do great work at a reasonable price.

New wheels will be here in a week or so. It will be a very fast little rocket with more ground clearance and a couple more small tweaks. Jay we need to put a fairing on your Aero!

Tempting. Now, if I only had the garage space.

I had to use the living room and patio Jay. A fairing not only is faster but it keeps you warm and dry in winter weather. In the summer you can control how much sun you are getting.

I made up 3-406 wheels for the SLR. They will not work unless you do major rework to the trike. The front tires will eat your hands up trying to use the brakes and steering along with trying to shift with a tire rubbing your knuckles! The rear wheel you either have to make dropout extenders or cut and re=weld the trike. Took the fairing off and putting the 349's back on tomorrow.

Ordering 28 x 406 and 28 x 559 Schwalbe Pro Ones and Latex tubes for the WAW. These will be for racing and trying to go fast only. Keeping the Big Apple on the rear and 44 x 406 Marathon Supremes on the front for everyday riding.
