Title: New to me Nocom! Post by jrob_bent on Feb 11th, 2018, 8:57pm A new to me Nocom will be mine in a few days! Yahoo. Warren Beauchamp, owner of Recumbents.com, is selling and shipping his to me. Warren has spent the past ten years updating and fine tuning the bike. Yahoo, I can't wait. Here is a link to a picture of it http://www.recumbents.com/wisil/misc/nocom/nocomside.jpg . |
Title: Re: New to me Nocom! Post by jayg on Feb 12th, 2018, 8:47am Dude, no way! Been lusting after one of those for years. Congratulations! |
Title: Re: New to me Nocom! Post by jrob_bent on Feb 12th, 2018, 5:41pm Thanks Jay. Yes, I too have been trying but someone always beat me to them. Not this time. Now maybe I can keep up with you on that Aero trike! I hope I can get acclimated enough to it by the 17th of March for the Dallas Senior Games. |
Title: Re: New to me Nocom! Post by jrob_bent on Feb 13th, 2018, 9:46am It is being shipped today. Yippie! It will be warm enough next week to bring to WRL. Too bad I am in such bad shape. I don't want to push it too hard anyway until I really get use to it. But then again... [smiley=pepper.gif] |

Looking forward to seeing it in person. |
Title: Re: New to me Nocom! Post by jrob_bent on Feb 13th, 2018, 1:17pm I might let you try it out Jay. I feel like waiting on Ketchup to come out of the bottle! Ha. Anticipation. I sure wish it would hurry and get here. |
Title: Re: New to me Nocom! Post by jrob_bent on Feb 14th, 2018, 7:07pm Dang, I feel like a new bottle of ketchup! He had to use two boxes and build a wooden box around it to ship it. Maybe he can get it done and shipped by Friday. I should get it by next Tuesday. If the weather is nice next Thursday, I might bring it to WRL. Don't laugh too hard if it appears slow Jay. I am in terrible riding shape. I still can not believe I am an owner of a NoCom. [smiley=jawdrop.gif] |
Title: Re: New to me Nocom! Post by jrob_bent on Feb 15th, 2018, 4:15pm My Nocom is on the way. Yippie! [smiley=dbanana.gif] [smiley=dancer.gif] [smiley=pepper.gif] [smiley=thumbsup.gif] |
Title: Re: New to me Nocom! Post by Mizta_Nice on Feb 15th, 2018, 8:18pm I have always wondered about those. Might have to come and see that for myself. Looks really fast. |
Title: Re: New to me Nocom! Post by square_corners on Feb 15th, 2018, 9:45pm Just checked the photo - WOW! That is awesome - my velo won't stand a chance! |
Title: Re: New to me Nocom! Post by jrob_bent on Feb 15th, 2018, 10:12pm I'll be bringing it to WRL soon. I wanted to bring it next Thursday, but if they are still calling for rain, it will be another day. Daniel I am a slow old man. I just hope I have the power to keep it upright. Warren had trouble getting it all to fit in two boxes, but has it boxed now. He will ship tomorrow at noon. Two day shipping. I have waited a couple of years, a few more days wont...hopefully...kill me. |
Title: Re: New to me Nocom! Post by jrob_bent on Feb 17th, 2018, 7:09pm The NoCom will be at the Ft. Worth Stockyard distribution center around 11 pm tonight. [smiley=tekst-toppie.gif] I have to put the boom back in, rear derailleur hangers, rear wheel, chain, and a couple other smaller items. I'll get it all adjusted and fit for me. I know I will have to shorten the chain as Warren is around 6'-5" and I am 5'-10". If I get it Monday and it is not raining Thursday, I'll be coming to WRL. I'll spend Tuesday and Wednesday getting to know the sweet girl! I want to make sure I can ride it well before appearing in public. [smiley=vrolijk_26.gif] |

Good to see you are posting again Greg. I hope you get to ride more this year. Come on over to WRL and try out the NoCom. Or I can come over to Benbrook again. I will be going to Texas Motor Speedway a couple of times in the next 2 weeks to get use to riding the NoCom there, getting ready for the 17th. I am not really in good enough shape to do the 5k, 10k, and 20k, but I'll try. They have let the road deteriorate pretty bad. Do you still have the velomobile? M5CHR? |
Title: Re: New to me Nocom! Post by jrob_bent on Feb 19th, 2018, 10:59am Screw FedEx! I called and ask them if I could pickup my package today since they were not going to deliver it until tomorrow. The guy on the phone said sure, no problem. So I requested it be held at the local Center for me to pickup. After he made the change, he told me it would be ready for pickup for pickup tomorrow after 5pm. What! I said now way, just have it delivered to the original home address. So sorry, once it has been tagged to hold, it can not be undone. Go F#@$ yourself FedEx. I will never ever use FedEx again. And some dumbass politicians want to replace the USPS with these money hungry idiots, no way. End of pissed off rant! Oh yeah, I forgot. My package sat 98 miles from here for 16 hours before it was shipped out for Ft. Worth. Two day delivery has turned into 5 day delivery! A$@wipes! Now end of rant for real. |
Title: Re: New to me Nocom! Post by jrob_bent on Feb 20th, 2018, 7:21am Just received an email that my package has been set back another day, day of a two day delivery. Sure am glad I paid $315 for two day delivery. Regular 3-5 ground was only $170. It arrived in Fort Worth two days ago, less than 10 miles from my house. [smiley=angry.gif] Now I am even more confused, FedEx just sent another email saying my package will be ready for pickup today. I am about ready to take 2-3 of my anxiety pills! [smiley=undecided.gif] |
Title: Re: New to me Nocom! Post by jrob_bent on Feb 20th, 2018, 12:26pm No, just the rear wheel is here. Bike tomorrow. I think I will go listen to Chris Stapleton's Tennessee Whiskey and have a few of them as I listen! At least I have a picture of the bike to look at! Ha. |
Title: Re: New to me Nocom! Post by MrWizard on Feb 21st, 2018, 2:54am Thats what most of us get to do with Nocom's just look at them and admire them from a distance .. Congratulations .. I've ridden that bike, its fantastic .. I didn't know it was for sale or I'd have chased it down myself .. When you get tired of it, you know where to find me ;D jrob_bent wrote:

Title: Re: New to me Nocom! Post by jrob_bent on Feb 21st, 2018, 3:51pm The eagle has landed! I just got home with the bike. Man, is it pretty and very light. Yee Haw! Got to got put it back together. [smiley=pepper.gif] |

Title: Re: New to me Nocom! Post by jrob_bent on Feb 21st, 2018, 6:27pm You know it Jay! I have everything except the chain on. I am awaiting an answer from Warren if I need to drive the boom in with a plastic auto body hammer. If I have to, I will ride it in the house through the garage! [smiley=tekst-toppie.gif] I told the wife that and she says, "just try it." Hmmm. I wonder what that means. [smiley=popcorn.gif] Hot darn, I have a NoCom! [smiley=bounce.gif] I'll be seeing you guys at WRL next Tuesday. |
Title: Re: New to me Nocom! Post by Action Lad on Feb 21st, 2018, 6:46pm I’m excited just to see one in real life. Of all the HPVs on Earth, that’s been my drool-over favorite for years and years. |
Title: Re: New to me Nocom! Post by jrob_bent on Feb 21st, 2018, 7:08pm You'll get to see it soon! It already has drool all over it. Ha ha. I am going to wax it up real nice. I don't even wax cars, but I am this. I can not believe how light it is. The rear wheel is honey comb cardboard sandwiched between CF disc. The front has a regular spoked rim with CF disc. I was just getting ready to buy a velomobile until I saw this for sale. Now I have to come up with another idea to convince the wife I need a velo too! [smiley=vrolijk_1.gif] |
Title: Re: New to me Nocom! Post by aikigreg on Feb 21st, 2018, 7:38pm Thanks! I've ridden a nocom and loved it. They're comfortable as well as fast and fun. I'm selling the velo actually, v since i have to be honest that I'll never rode it again. But i hope to get out on the bike soon and maybe catch up with everyone. jrob_bent wrote:

Might even have to cut a chunk out from the frame and seat, and put it back together and reinforce it. I don't think I would stretch enough by being put in a rack. Such is life. Title: Re: New to me Nocom! Post by aikigreg on Feb 21st, 2018, 11:02pm Yup. Super low miles and super will taken care of. I haven't really thought of a price but so long as i don't lose much in it, I'd much rather give a good friend a good deal. If you decide you want it, holler at me. jayg wrote:

Might not have to cut the boom or would have to cut less off the end. You probably already know that. |

I have been talking to a guy who has re-fabricated 5-6 NoCom and has built several bikes, trikes, and Battle Mountain streamliners. He actually made the designed and built the new Cruzbike Vendetta prototype bike. He thinks cutting down the boom tube and boom would be ok. So does Dana from Bent Up Cycles. I'll get it to fit one way or another! Ha. If I have to Jay, I'll use a BFH! In the construction trade that is bigger and hammer. [smiley=vrolijk_1.gif] |
Title: Re: New to me Nocom! Post by jrob_bent on Feb 22nd, 2018, 4:28pm I have the NoCom where I can lock into the pedals! My foot is straight down with my leg fully extended. Now I need to buy 155 mm cranks, or cut down some 170-175 mm cranks that I have. Getting close, Yahoo! |
Title: Re: New to me Nocom! Post by jayg on Feb 22nd, 2018, 7:06pm jrob_bent wrote:
Jerry, you would need 180 mm cranks to produce 155 mm cranks. Too bad you don't live closer to me. I have the jig, drill, taps, sanding drum and buffing compound needed to produce nice-looking 150 mm cranks from 175 mm cranks. 150 mm cranks would work fine for you. They work for me, and I don't have anywhere near your leg strength. Main benefit for me is my knees don't hurt anymore. |
Title: Re: New to me Nocom! Post by jrob_bent on Feb 22nd, 2018, 8:01pm Sending you a PM Jay. |
Title: Re: New to me Nocom! Post by jrob_bent on Feb 23rd, 2018, 8:43pm Thanks Jay. You are the best! I wont make it Tuesday. Mom is having Surgery Monday. Maybe the following Tuesday if everything goes right. I can't wait to zip around WRL on my little girl! [smiley=thumbsup.gif] I'll have it all put together in a couple more days. I ordered new chain rings and chain, and got my new Schwalbe one tires today. I bought the folding version of the one's. Thanks again and let me know if I can help you out. |
Title: Re: New to me Nocom! Post by jrob_bent on Feb 24th, 2018, 8:30pm Thanks to Jay, I have the NoCom fitted so it fits me. I almost had it ready to ride by late this evening, but ended up taking the Baron out for a quick night time ride. I hope to have the sweet thing at WRL next week. |

It came with two different handle bars, the gunners you mentioned and regular tiller bars. I think getting it to fit me will be harder than learning to get use to he gunners. I had to get 150 mm cranks from Jay and cut several inches off the boom and front end. I will have to repair the front by reinforcing with some carbon fiber cloth and epoxy. I might put the tiller on for now. If I can perform with it anywhere near how Warren did with it, I'll be a happy old man. |

Title: Re: New to me Nocom! Post by jrob_bent on Feb 26th, 2018, 4:19pm I went to the local bike shop close to the hospital where my mom had her Pacemaker put in this morning in Alexandria, LA. I was able to buy the two chain rings I wanted with the correct BCD. They wanted a picture of me holding the NoCom and kept saying, that is one bad ass bike! Ha ha. Then the owner and head mechanic wanted pictures of them in front of it. The owner of the shop is way too cool. Jay, I'll have the Q rings back to you when I come to WRL. I have the other set of rings coming by slow boat from China. Should only be 39-45 more days for them to arrive. Thanks for the loan Jay. I didn't use them at all. |

If you just barely move your hand, you will move quite quickly. I have a set of tillers sent with the bike. For riding on the roads I will use the tiller. I'll use the gunners just for racing which should not be more than 3-4 times a year. I don't know how long it will take to adapt to the NoCom, but I bought it to break the Masters 200 M sprint and kilo. The sprint and kilo record is held by Phil Phlatt on a Morciglio M1. He was around 51, I am just a few years older, 14! I was within a little less than 2 mph from the record last year on the Baron. I would run out of gearing around the 140-150 meter mark. I needed a 56t chain ring instead of a 53t. Maybe even a 58t. Headed to Alexandria, LA to the bike shop for a Shimano chain pin to re-connect the chain. !40 miles round trip. I am going crazy not being able to ride the bike yet. It has stormed every day since I bought it. It is flooding all over over here in Louisiana. |
