Title: No More Free Photobucket Third Party Hosting Post by jayg on Jul 5th, 2017, 8:32am Wondered why my Forum avatar changed by itself, several days ago. Found out why this morning. No more free third party hosting on Photobucket. A P500 subscription costs $400/yr. Goodbye Photobucket. Can anyone recommend a good photo storage site that features free third party hosting? http://i1021.photobucket.com/albums/af339/jayg_2010/DSC01133_zpsmpssi0zj.jpg (http://s1021.photobucket.com/user/jayg_2010/media/DSC01133_zpsmpssi0zj.jpg.html) |
Title: Re: No More Free Photobucket Third Party Hosting Post by FlyingLaZBoy on Jul 5th, 2017, 11:37am I'm a little confused. I can still upload photos, and share them here with the URL link... and I'm not paying anything... http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae256/pbrown8js/20170502_130352.jpg (http://s977.photobucket.com/user/pbrown8js/media/20170502_130352.jpg.html) |

I can't. Just made two more unsuccessful attempts to post photos from my Photobucket library. Title: Re: No More Free Photobucket Third Party Hosting Post by Action Lad on Jul 5th, 2017, 3:34pm It wasn't working for me the other day, as well. I didn't dig very deeply to find out why, but I hope it's not as drastic a change for me as Jay said. Does Photobucket think it can change prices as easily and grossly as Epipen? Title: Re: No More Free Photobucket Third Party Hosting Post by jrob_bent on Jul 21st, 2017, 6:29am I am switching to Imgur when I get to my daughter's house today. The wifi here at RV park is way to slowwww. I think Photobucket is going to have repercussions for the way they did this. I got an email saying I was over using the 3rd party hosting, only after they deleted all my pictures from all sites. Very professional Photobucket. |
Title: Re: No More Free Photobucket Third Party Hosting Post by MrWizard on Jul 21st, 2017, 11:39am I"ve been using imgur for years .. use their code and markup so they can make their money and hopefully they won't have to convert to a pay as you go system like Photof&ckt Servers, Network, system administrators etc all cost money .. so unless you've managed to get all that capital and everyone to work for free, these hosting companies do need to make money. Most of them do it by exploiting your images and backlinks as a data source. for the most part you get what you want and they get what they want .. With photobucket apparently people were discarding the code and just direct linking the images, depriving them of their revenue .. Not trying to defend their actions as there were better ways to handle it, but I do understand how they got there. jrob_bent wrote:

Title: Re: No More Free Photobucket Third Party Hosting Post by jrob_bent on Jul 21st, 2017, 12:38pm I know it costs money to host anything. But, when they tell you it is free as long as you let them put ads on, they could have done it in a more professional manner. Delete all my pictures, then send an email, not good. If they had said we want money up front before you can use our site anymore, at least I would have had an option. I have paid for some of their services, never again! |

I didn't get any advance notice or follow-up E-mail. My posted photos were all of a sudden replaced with a P500 notice. I only used PB to post photos on RBENT. My frequency of posting was low, and the stored photos consumed only 3% of the allowed free storage. Four hundred dollars/yr. is pretty steep for what little usage I would make of the site. |
Title: Re: No More Free Photobucket Third Party Hosting Post by MrWizard on Jul 21st, 2017, 2:46pm Not defending Photobucket as the whole thing 'smells' like executive panic .. Meanwhile always keep in mind on the internet "If you're not paying for the product, you are the product." jrob_bent wrote:
