I am trying to devise a way to transport two Terratrike Rovers on my Mercedes CLK 55 convertible. My wife and I like to travel in that car, and we'd love to be able to take our trikes. I saw a demo online in which a Terratrike rep breaks down a Rover very quickly. It looks like one could build a reasonable compact, lightweight crate to hold the disassembled parts. I am wondering if I could construct two such crates that could be tied down on a luggage rack on the trunk of the Mercedes. I know it is a bit of a crazy idea, but there are not many options if I want to carry them on the MB. I could put a hitch on it and pull a lightweight trailer, but that seems like even more trouble because of the trailer itself. Understand, this is not for transport across town to a trail. I have an old pickup for that. This is for driving to other parts of the state or even out of state. Any ideas out there?

We have a Hitchrider rack that will carry two trikes, vertically, on a vehicle with a hitch receiver. Several companies make similar designs. It has been a stable, solid rack for carrying two trikes at once. What we don't like about the rack is that, on long trips in unfamiliar places, we don't feel comfortable leaving the trikes outside during extended stops or overnight, where they are out of our sight. Today we are purchasing a Dodge Grand Caravan which carries both of our trikes inside with room to spare.

I just had a Maxwell cargo trailer built just for this reason. It is a little over 7 feet long, 4 1/2 feet tall, and 4 foot wide.The front has a v-nose to make it more aerodynamic. It only weights about 580 lbs and can be pulled by even a smart car. Can't tell it is behind the vehicle. I had two windows and roof vent installed, but don't really need them if you just want to haul your trikes. I had the windows and vent for when I sleep in the trailer on long journeys. The cost with the add-ons is around $2,000. Put a good lock on the door and no worries. And best of all, you can leave the trikes assembled!!!

Have an overhead rack welded together, like the ones plumbers put on their pickup beds, to fit your car. Ride around with the top down and your trikes over your heads!
