Avid makes the BB7 disc brake in both "Road" and "MTN"... other than the color/anodizing, is there any difference? I'm wanting to put one on the rear wheel on the Rocket, to replace the BB5...

The MTN ones are what I have on the Giro. They work fine. I do not know of any mechanical differences, but you might call Avid to see.

From a post on BROL - "BB7 sets are available for MTB (cantilever levers) or Road (caliper brake levers)."
