Title: Exciting complete Strada drive failure tonight
Post by irodguy on Jun 14th, 2008, 11:38pm

Well on the way back from my 22 mile night journey I had a exciting time with the rear end spinning around to my left dead stopped.  I had just shifted down for a signal light and bang chain off, broken spokes, locked up rear end.  The chain seems to be crisscrossed in the opposite way.  While I could go ahead and drop the wheel out and unlock it, it's probably better just to go to the dealer as is.  Hopefully Bacchetta will warranty it. Lucky for me I was within three blocks from home.  Ah three blocks is a pretty good ways to carry a Strada.  No big deal I will be riding my LWB tomorrow.

So you're saying the chain went inside past the largest rear cog, into the spokes?  Ouch....   :(

Ah yes the chain snapped past the large gear and jammed.  I went from 20 mph to zero in about 8 ft.  I new there was an "issue" when the rear end appeared to my left as the rear end locked up.  I slammed the brakes on full force to get the bike straight again.  Luck for me I had just unlocked otherwise it would not have been fun.  My guess is that it will not be covered under warranty since it's more than 60 days.

If I have to pay for the damages I will probably go ahead upgrade while I am at.  But I will see what Plano cycling has to say tomorrow.  I know that Pricepoint was having a sale on Sram X0 kits.

:(
I really feel for yah.
Just saturday morning I took my xtracycle out to do some shopping and pick my wife up some lunch since she was working. I went to gear down when I was pulling into stop and the rear wheel locked up and I just heard a few little pings. Bent about 4 spokes and snapped 3. Just at the start of the day oy. Oh well dropped lunch off for the wife. Went to do some grocery shopping and pick up some stuff for the hardware store then went up to bluebonnet to pick up a tandem derraliur cable for an old Bike E.  I have a spare wheel so I'll probably just swap it out.
