Title: I got metal for the new dropouts
Post by Opus the Poet on Jan 19th, 2008, 4:05pm

I picked up some metal cheap for the new dropouts, enough to build about 5 bikes for $4 and tax, and all it took was 6 hours on the bus...

I decided since I was building new droputs anyway, I might as well build in mounts for the tailbox. So the reskinned tailbox will be mounted on a full-width, full-length, welded to the bike steel mount. No more flimsy bolted on mounts with zip ties holding the mount together. The new mount will have a permanent battery box and switches for the lighting setup, with enough battery capacity to ride all night (12 hours burn time on high beam).having a fully supported frame for the tailbox also means the stresses on the box are going to be a lot lower, reducing the number of repairs required to the frame and also the number of re-skins.

Anyone think of something I missed and need to put on the mount?

Way to go Opus! Can't wait to see the finished product. By the way, just wondering, have you ever seen the bents on Atomic Zombie? There is one I saw in the video section that is a low racer type called the Marauder.

Slaps forehead, "I knew i was forgetting something!" Actually I have a Coroplast fender to put on the front, I guess i could cobble something up to keep the back end clean as well.
