Title: Honey Do 200k Permament on December 1st
Post by bikerteam on Nov 19th, 2007, 6:46am

Nelson is hosting the "Honey Do" 200k Permanent on Saturday, December 1st.  It leaves from Princeton, which is just slightly East of McKiney on highway 380.

Let either of us know if you'd like to join in some bent up fun, and burn off some Thanksgiving kill'a calories!

Bring out your whistles and your mace, there's a LOT of dogs on this route....   :D

Awesome Greg, glad you're going to ride.  Which bike you going to bring out of the stable?

Nelson, how about posting this on the LSR forum?

Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving.

I think I'll join you too, if the weather will cooperate.

Well, when chipseal abounds, I bring the p-38.  What're the roads like?

Nelson will have to respond with the road conditions.  I put 28mm Terry Tellus (sp?) tires on my stock 650c wheels, and they ride real nice on chip seal, plus they appear to be very fast tires and wear well too.

Brr - it sure is cold and wet outside.  I just got back from a 90 minute "temo" spin class, and sure glad I rode indoors.  I forgot how much I dislike riding in the cold, wet conditions since we've just transitioned from 75 plus degree sun!

I've ridden some of the roads on the route and ridden in the area enough to be able to say that there is definitely going to be chip seal!  I think Paul rode the whole route a month or so ago and certainly saw a lot of dogs.  I saw a few dogs on Wolfe Tracks but didn't have any issues.  The traffic was light on the portions that I saw.  There are no really big climbs, but it does undulate constantly.  The P38 would likely be the wisest choice.  I also don't plan on being very fast either, but that doesn't mean you have to go slow with me.  Greg, did you decide to keep the P38? Noticed you were thinking about selling or trading it on BROL.  My Easy Racer transaction has taken place, but doubt it will arrive in time for me to get it reassembled and debugged before Honey Do, but maybe for the 12/15 brevet?  The Corsa is currently what I plan to ride, as it is doing very well with the new seat pad.  I had my brief foray back into uprights for a month, and I must say I'm more bent than ever now.  I'm about 50% this year, but if the Tour Easy becomes my designated commuter I may be all recumbent next year!

Take Care,
Nelson.

Hey Bud hope you can make it too!  Right now the long term forecast is 55/47 with rain.  Pretty typical for winter.  Not too bad though.  I need to get out there today, but haven't gotten the motivation working yet 37 and rain reminds me too much of last January's 200K where the whole thing was that way.  I was pretty cold at the end!

I would love to ride if the weather is ok. Can I ride along with some of you guys? I know it should by any independent ride but I'm not that independent yet. If you don't want me to tag along, then I will wait unit next month when Steve can ride with me.

Come on along, Peggy. I'll ride with you. If the weather is bad, though, I won't be riding, either.

I don't specifically remember a lot of chipseal, but then again that kind of thing doesn't bother me much.  I rode the Honey DogDoo with Sharon Stevens, so maybe I was distracted  :D

But the rollers and the dawgs, yes, that I do remember...  and they were dogs that didn't stop for a coaches' whistle...

However, it's a nice route.  The last 5 miles or so into Honey Grove are a deceptive uphill "false flat", which kept us at about 14 mph -- however, when we started back, we were doing 22-24 on that stretch!!!  Similar to Italy, my time was about 9 hours total -- but we rode faster on the way back than on the way up.

I may be able to join in, I dunno yet...   Peggy, you can handle it, no problem!

Love to have you there Peggy!  You'll likely be faster than me, I'm *Definitely* off season  speed right now.  The weather may be a little wet. but it is looking considerably warmer than this past weekend (61/53 with 30% chance of showers). So far 4 maybes, 2 pretty sures, and 4 definites, so looking like there could be a pretty good group.

Take Care,
Nelson.

I just watched the 10pm weather, and the chances of rain Saturday are diminishing. I too will be pretty slow as I had outpatient work done on 3 facet joints in my lower back today.  Angie said the area is very black-n-blue.  I'm still pretty numb, but plan on riding indoors tomorrow  ::)

Nelson, I'm still drugged, so my question may have been answered, but to ensure everyone who may ride knows the logistics, could you please restate the start time and start location.

Also, since I've never been there, should I drive up 121 to 75, then jump on 380? Please let me know the best directions to the parking area once I get on highway 380.

Well, that leaves me on the sidelines...AGAIN! Ray,I have had the series of injections into the facet joint area-I hope yours are/were more successful than mine. Take care or you'll end up in the cheer leading section with me. Thanks to all for riding along with Peggy.

Hi Folks,  Ray glad to hear the procedure is done, I almost called you last night, but decided not to disturb you.  I'm weathering a cold right now, hopefully will knock it out before Saturday.  As for directions,   For you Ray, I think it is best to go 121 -> 75 -> 380.  After you are on 380 in Mckinney its only about 6 miles to the start point.  You turn N in Princeton on FM75 and proceed North to the elementary school.  There is a large parking lot there.  But it is very small town.  In the forms I sent you there are some detailed directions.

I will try and attach the files to this post, the detailed directions are in there.
Take Care,
Nelson.

That's AOK with me Steve, Although I don't believe its legal to offer any support outside of a designated control.  Hope tp see ya there, Printed out Cue Sheets, and Control Cards, and waivers today so I think I'm ready.  Still debugging on the Tour Easy so probably will not ride it, most likely be on the Corsa.  Got the derailleurs adjusted, and finally got the *Bleeping* front brake to quit dragging.  I'm not such a big fan of V brakes.

Take Care,
Nelson.

Yeah, that's right, no help outside controls, unless you're picking up a dnf'er, and I hope there will be none of those.

Father Strada - If you're volunteering to SAG, then count me in on a donation.  While it's not supposed to be cold this Saturday, last winter, Mike Morris' wife (Gaye) did SAG on almost every Perm we did.  She is quite experienced and had hot soup, sandwiches, drinks, etc... at every control.  That's not really necessary during the summer, but the hot soup was awesome on the really cold rides.

Sounds like we're going to have a pretty good turn out.  Still appears to be a 30% chance of rain, but relatively warm.

btw:  Go Packers!!!!  I'm in the camp of the anti-Jerry faction.

Add me to the anti-Cowgirls camp(Go Colts). I don't know if you want me to SAG. I can't even take care of myself, let alone others.

And I thought I was bad about hijacking threads.........

They're still talking about scattered showers, but the low tonight is only going to be 60 degrees, and they're predicting 70 degrees for tomorrow afternoon. I think we need to just ride, and Steve needs to rent a bus, and if we get into a cold downpour, he can just haul us all in.

I don't care one whit about the Cowboys, but gawd do the cowgirls rock!  (Cheerleaders, that is!) :)

Sorry, most of my jokes are too much in my own head to be funny, I think :)

See all you cowboys, cowgirls, and ermm...   others in the morning.  Plan to get out there near 6AM for you early arrivers (RAY).  Also I've decided that since I'm going to be slow anyway I'm going to ride the Tour Easy, maybe not the wisest decision with less than 100 miles on it, but it is pretty comfy, and the fairing will be quite nice for the long trek back from Honey Grove into the wind (and I'm rather smitten at the moment).  Weather looks like 59-69 at the moment with slightly less chance of rain now woohoo!

Take Care,
Nelson.
