Title: Golden Corral Military Appreciation Monday Post by Bud_Bent on Nov 11th, 2007, 9:36pm Tomorrow, November 12th, is Military Appreciation Monday at Golden Corral restaurants. From 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm, veterans can receive a free dinner. Rose and I have enjoyed attending a couple of these, and listening to stories from fellow veterans. Info from Golden Corral can be found here (http://www.goldencorral.com/military/). |

Title: Re: Golden Corral Military Appreciation Monday Post by Kwijybow on Nov 12th, 2007, 8:37am Hi Bud, When and where did you serve. I put in about 6 years from 82-88 in the Navy. Spent some time in the gulf in the pre-war phase shooting at Iranians, and a couple of Iraqi's. Was last stationed on the FFG-24 the Jack Williams. Which has since been retired and sold to Bahrain. Take Care, Nelson. |
Title: Re: Golden Corral Military Appreciation Monday Post by Bud_Bent on Nov 12th, 2007, 9:19am I was drafted into the Army in 1971, and served two years. I just barely missed going to Vietnam, as things were winding down in 1971, and troops coming home were not being replaced. I was in Field Artillery, and spent most of my time at Fort Hood. |

Title: Re: Golden Corral Military Appreciation Monday Post by Opus the Poet on Nov 12th, 2007, 2:38pm How are you supposed to prove you're as vet? I was discharged about the same time as my bike was built and don't even know where my DoD whatchacallit form is. Opus |
Title: Re: Golden Corral Military Appreciation Monday Post by Rawhide on Nov 12th, 2007, 3:25pm Opus, I think it's pretty much on your word that they will feed you. I've never had to "prove" it when I went. DJ |

Title: Re: Golden Corral Military Appreciation Monday Post by robert.j on Nov 12th, 2007, 9:33pm Hats off to all you vets! I admire all of you. I was drafted but Nixon ended the draft before I had reported so I was excused. I was in ROTC in high school and college and was a competitive shooter and often wished I'd gone ahead and signed up. Your willingness to serve your country (that means "us") is very appreciated. Robert |

My tech school class was the first one with no overseas shipments. So they sent me to North Dakota and I babysat Minuteman Missles. nwo |
Title: Re: Golden Corral Military Appreciation Monday Post by Richard on Nov 13th, 2007, 6:24pm Sorry for this late post. I send my sincere thanks to all of you guys who gave your blood and sweat so that I can live in freedom! THANK YOU!! Hey Bud, I was drafted in 1972. Two bus loads of us went from Odessa to Abilene for our physicals. We got poked and prodded and every orifice of our bodies inspected. What a bunch of long haired goofs. Remember the tongue depressor? After all was said and done, they didn't take a single one of us. We all went home. My lottery number was 28. We were the last group to go through the lottery process. I believe. I keep my draft card framed. Richard |
