Title: Turkey Roll
Post by sstexex on Nov 9th, 2007, 8:37pm

It's comin up on the 17th in Denton and the weather looks to be decent. Is it worth doing? I've never done this one before and was thinking about the 71 miler...

I can't vouch for the new route but last years Turkey Roll was one of the best rides I did all year. The weather was perfect and the route was good. I'll be back this year unless the weather is miserable.

I've ridden parts of the route, it should be decent with good road surface and the area is flat and fairly scenic

You can find more information on the ride here (http://dentonbreakfastkiwanis.org/news.php?type=newsdocs&cat=1).

Bud I would love to do the turkey roll. I'm still working out a conflict.  I my need to do the 31mile route because of work.
This is a very busy time of year for me.  Peggy

If my thyroid surgery is performed as scheduled, this ride is two days later. I am banned from the bike that weekend.

You probably wouldn't want to ride so soon after, even if you weren't banned. Ironically, it's not the discomfort from the incision that would bother you so much as the sore throat from being intubated for the surgery. Also, your parathyroids may go into "shock" temporarily. Since it's them that regulate your calcium levels I have to think that going out and putting your body through the stress of a ride might not be safe, even if not painful.

That was my experience, at least.

Oh, and God speed.

Yeah, but the way the crappie were biting yesterday, I'm going to have a hard time sitting home the whole weekend, recovering or not. Greg, you gonna come escort a feeble, recovering old man to his fishing hole?

I figure I'll just see how I feel and decide on when to ride from that, but settle for nothing more than easy rides for at least a week.

I hear you. At the time I had my thyroid out, I was living alone.  I was so bored by the day after coming home from the hospital that I quit taking my pain meds so that I could drive to the video store for some movies. There, I was perversely amused when I went to pay for my videos and the girl at the register couldn't take her eyes off my "Frankenstein" neck.   ;D

And we have now succeeded in completely hijacking another thread....

Sorry. As penance, I will give serious consideration to doing the Turkey Roll ride.

Im seriously thinking about pedalling this ride on my Baron.  The 38 miles is too short so it looks like I will have to tough-out the 71 miles.  Who else is in?

I'll let you know Friday :)  I was considering the italy 200k, but I'm thinking this ride might be fun on the lowracer, and I won't get many more opportunities with it this year I think.

Terry, if I pull you around those 17 miles, think you can keep up?  :)

Yes Sir Greg that is my ride plan.  I want to run with the Dawgs for the first several miles until I get dropped.  After I get dropped I will hang with a biker babe.   :D

Mark will be there with his Baron.   So you wont be stuck at my slow pace.  His email address is: m.leuck@tx.rr.com   I will tell him that will will be rolling out as a team (pending drops).

This is the last major pay-ride on the year.  So give it priority over the club rides.

Do you think we will need warm-up clothing such as a vest or jacket?

Bud you can bring your pole on the Turkey Roll.  Stop and fish on Lake Ray Roberts.
Maybe you can cast-out and troll while you ride.
;D

That's right, you can trol as you ride across the dam road.
If all goes well, I will bring my EZ-1SC Lite to the ride, most likely the 38 mile or so ride. I have my handlebar wind faring I had made for my EZ 3 a while back and tested it out the other day and it was a big help in the wind, so I'll be grateful for the little extra help by the last long climb. :)
Hope to see yall Sat. I should get there before 7 for sure.
Happy Trails,
Joe

I'm planning on riding the 31 mile route, I realy  wouldn't have time to ride the 71 and be home and ready for work  by 3pm. This will be my first ride without my riding partner Mr Strada :'(  :'(. Hope to see you guys up there. Peggy

I blew it, I overslept....so I made up for the miles by putting in 47 from my home into and around Arlington. The EZ Lite was a real pleasure to ride even in the wind.
