Title: HHH 2016
Post by FlyingLaZBoy on Jun 7th, 2016, 1:39pm

Looks like I don't have to work on HHH weekend, for the first time in a few years...  so, I'm planning to do the hundred again.  I'm making a "camping" reservation at the YMCA this time - the Lamar isn't hosting, and 1st Christian church (Lamar's alternative) is 4-5 miles away.  The Y charges $20, and is 3 blocks from the start.

I'm signed up for the HHH.  See you there.

I've already signed up too. As for the further away church, as DJ and I rode to the the start last year, we noticed that there is plenty of parking on Seventh Street if you head to the start as early as we did. So, I'm just going to drive to Seventh Street, then ride from there. That will make for a very short ride to the start, and a much appreciated short ride to the truck after the ride.

Steve and I are signed up and also staying at the Y. It was pretty crowded last year but we appreciated being close enough to make it in time for the early start.

I just signed up for the HHH. I hope to see all of you there. Last year it seemed like I got to the start and had all of these expectations of meeting everybody and getting to know you guys, and then BOOM it was time to go. I really hope to meet you guys and get to know you in what limited time there is before we scoot off into the darkness!

Oh, and my daughter will be riding my wife's Musashi, but she is only doing the 50. Do any of you know if she is supposed to start at the same time as we in the 100 do, or is she supposed to start later???  I am REALLY excited about her getting to ride a recumbent in the HHH!!! She has had back surgery (like her old man) and she says riding an upright is like having a knife stab her right between her scapulae. I'm hoping this will cement her into the recumbent way. I'm hoping she can visit with you guys as well.

Too many riders for them to prevent someone from starting with whomever they please.  If she can do 100k, it would be a good time to do that.  It's one of the easiest 100ks you can do.

All recumbents have the option of starting early regardless of the distance they plan on riding.  You & your daughter just move on up to the front with the recumbents.

I hope they have fixed that timing glitch that had all of the early starters getting a 10-15 minute time break. Last year I think I broke Five hours by a few minutes, but they had me coming in at 4:41. But, hey, that was my official time and I'm taking it to my grave with me!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you will hang patiently behind the racers this year, according to everything I've heard, the officials will abandon trying to sequester the racers at the end, and you can pass at will. You just need to hold back until then.

That timing glitch has always been there. It's surprising to me that they haven't fixed their software.

GBRAD is right. Recumbents can start up front, regardless what distance they're riding.

There should be a map of the starting lineup in your packet.   Recumbents and Tandems do indeed have the opportunity to start up front.   It's a part of what they call the safety start.  The forecast has HHH Saturday topping out at 92.  We'll see about that.....

I'm going to bring this up at the meeting on friday night, though I don't expect much traction.    I am faster than a large bunch of those racers,  especially in the milan, the "unofficial marshaling" which goes on is a personal sore spot.  I've not seen that crap at any other ride/race anywhere else on the planet except this one. Either let me race, officially, and extend the same courtesy,  or stop whining and getting in the way when I pass you.

Ouch!  1st Christian Church at $50, plus the distance, didn't sit well with me this year.  Signed up at the Y.  Sure will be looking for some good tire deals at the MPEC, I got patches of thread showing up on my front tire.  I rotate, so I am getting the maximum life out of them.  Hope it holds up for Saturday's miles. Kick some butt Doug. I wish I was healed up enough to go, I would help run interference for you. You paid your money, so go pass all of them. Good luck.

Hey Mr. Wizard,

I don't know what meeting that is on Friday and who it is with, but give them a piece of our collective minds about this problem of "unofficial marshaling". Last year I really felt like I was in danger. I didn't think I would say anything about it because by the end of the incident I was uttering some pretty dark language and gestures at my attackers. I thought I'd just let Chip glory in a really great event and not bring him down. Now is the time to bring up concerns though.

If you paid the big bucks, "golden spoke" money,  you get a chance to talk to the organizers directly as a "representative of the community" obstensively  to help improve the ride. Since I paid the price of admission this is one of the the items i've got on the list ..

My opinion -- I don't think this is Chips doing, in-fact I don't think its really the organizers .   I think its a legacy item that started back in the 1990s and has grown into the proportions it has today without someone really riding herd on it.  In other similar rides in the briefing  they make it a point to tell the independent support vehicles to yield to passing cyclists.

If you don't have one, this is perhaps a reason to have a camera.   I bought brand new memory chips for my cameras to be able to capture this in 1080P glory if it happens again. I suspect some people would be embarrassed after what you reported last year if the video of it was made public

I agree. I don't think Chip knew a thing about it.
