That's interesting! I'll be in China early November. I won't have my bike, though.

I'll be there from the 1st until probably the 20th or so. I'll mostly be in Guangzhou & Chengdu .. (and the Yunnan ride)

If you want to catch up - let me know where you'll be - Getting around in china is simple and inexpensive .. so sometimes I take a weekend trip somewhere if there is something interesting to do/see. Most of the time though I ride with GzCycle though http://www.gzcycle.com/ around the unitown island in old canton... Lots of bikes to rent nearly everywhere, though bent's as rare as an honest politician ..

We'll be on a tour, which will be fairly regimented, but we may get a free day. I'll let you know.

There are a few things you need to know about tours in china and how not to get taken or find yourself in a spot .. Things like bringing your own toilet paper as the public head doesn't have any .. Write down (or print) the chinese name of hotels you will be staying at in case you get separated from the group or want to be . (unless you want another tour via a taxi as they drive you around "looking" for someone that speaks english) A lot of mostly common sense stuff but lets try to catch up at a ride or on the phone before you go if you want. I've also got some Renminbi I can trade you or let you borrow .. having a pocket full of that before you get over there will be helpful as only few of their ATMs network to ours .. (only the big banks do and they can be rare in the outlying provinces)
