Title: Ride Ataxia: Saturday, March 29
Post by shellbear on Mar 22nd, 2014, 4:19pm

I know Jane can't make it this year, but is anyone else going to Ride Ataxia in Denton next Saturday??  I will be there!  I can't wait, it's one of my favorite rides.  I really like the route and they have delicious food from Outback Steakhouse.  :)  Who's with me?  I'll be going on the 50 mile option.

I've done this ride for several years in succession, but the current same-day registration fee of $55 is off-putting. Will probably do it, because it's for a worthy cause. But, if other rides start costing $50 and above, I'll be skipping them and doing Plano East or other free rides.

We're still on the fence on this one.  If we do, it will be the 25 miler.

Jay, the reason their prices went up was to offset those who don't do fundraising at all.  The cheaper registration fee is for people who pledge to raise a minimum of $200 (or is it $150?  I've seen both on the site...)  In previous years where it's been a flat fee for everyone regardless of how much the rider raised in donations, they felt that the charity wasn't making enough of a "profit," hence the change.   I'm with you though, it is pretty pricey...  There was a discounted registration day at RBM a couple of weeks back, I probably should have posted about that but I was still MIA on the forums here.

I preregistered for last year's rained-out Ride Ataxia, because I wanted to join Team Easy Street, like I had done the previous year. Would have done it this year, if Jane had set up a team. I normally don't preregister for pay rides, because I've been burned by rain-outs so many times.

Decided to skip Ataxia and work on the 8 to 10 speed conversion on my wife's cassette.  Later today we'll head down to Bob Woddruff park and do a lap of Plano.

Skipped it, too. I'm in warm weather mode. Too cold natured to start a ride underdressed, when the wind chill is 40 degrees. No place to put the layers and electric gloves I'd be stripping off later in the ride.

Well it was a chilly start but it turned into a lovely day!  I did the full 50 miles and it was great.  I saw John, Christi, Joanne, and Bob plus 4-5 trice riders I didn't know.  I think John and I were the only two 'bents on 2 wheels.  Hehe.  Good times and good folks!

There was one more recumbent rider on the 25 mile ride.

So sorry we missed it this year but we were in Crested Butte. It was a tough choice but...
