Title: Mardi Gras Parade in OC, March 2 Post by Patti on Feb 18th, 2014, 1:40pm If anyone is interested, Bike Friendly Oak Cliff will once again be part of the lead-off group for the Mardi Gras Parade in Oak Cliff. Anyone can join in and it would be nice to have more recumbents . Trikes are a plus as it can be a challenge to balance a bike but if you can put your feet down easily and like a challenge, come on down. Parade starts at 4, line-up begins around 2:30 - 3:00. Bead throwing is not required but is a plus so, if you have a tandem, load up your stoker and let them fling away. |
Title: Re: Mardi Gras Parade in OC, March 2 Post by diannalightning on Feb 18th, 2014, 2:58pm Patti, can you post where everyone should meet for this parade? Sounds like fun especially if there is King Cake. |

Title: Re: Mardi Gras Parade in OC, March 2 Post by TonyWard on Feb 18th, 2014, 4:42pm Do we have to provide our own beads? If so, any recommended place to get them cheap? I might bring my kids in their kid trailer pulled by me on a mountain bike (not sure I am good enough to pull them on my high racer at such a slow speed). I think they should be able to throw beads from it - plus they would probably both get a kick out of being in a parade. I assume no issue bringing kids (6 & 3 yrs old) assuming they are strapped in and wearing HELMETS! Edit: Looked up the parade here. http://mardigrasoakcliff.com/paradeinfo/ Says registration is full - does that mean we can't ride? |
Title: Re: Mardi Gras Parade in OC, March 2 Post by Patti on Feb 19th, 2014, 12:15am The info is to be posted tomorrow. I will add it here once I get it. The organization is already registered for the parade. We do not have to do that individually. Beads can be found at any Party City location. |
Title: Re: Mardi Gras Parade in OC, March 2 Post by Patti on Feb 19th, 2014, 10:30am Ok, here is the scoop, hot off the news feed: Get a costume ready, bike decorated, beads bought for throwing, and ride with BFOC in the 6th annual Mardi Gras Oak Cliff Parade! Our line up is #1. Meet-up is at 3:00 at Rosemont/ 7th St, and we'll roll out ahead of the DPD lead car when Davis closes—around 3:50. All kids riding with Kiddical Mass are invited to lead BFOC at the front of the pack on the 1.2-mile ride into Bishop Arts. Lazaaaay lay bon tom roulaaaay! Title: Re: Mardi Gras Parade in OC, March 2 Post by Patti on Feb 28th, 2014, 7:56am Yeah, the forecast is deteriorating badly for Sunday. North Texas Irish Festival starts today, though, so there is still an opportunity to party. |
Title: Re: Mardi Gras Parade in OC, March 2 Post by Monkeywrangler22 on Feb 28th, 2014, 8:08am Hey if anyone is going to the Irish Fest this weekend, be sure to stop by the dog rescue area, and say HI to my friends at Texas Independent Ridgeback Rescue, the African Lion Hounds! |
