Title: Post-Xmas breakfast and ride, Sat Dec 28, 8AM Post by FlyingLaZBoy on Dec 12th, 2013, 10:26am Let's meet at Norma's Cafe on W. Davis for breakfast and gift swap, 8AM on Saturday the 28th - I've got the side room reserved for 25... Depending upon the weather, we'll do a ride afterwards... Bob Millay and Patti, please post some thoughts on a couple route offerings lasting a couple hours, perhaps one of 20 miles at casual pace, the other around 30ish miles not quite so casual. Please RSVP here, so we get an idea of participation!!! And let's hope the weather improves!!!! Paul |

Title: Re: Post-Xmas breakfast and ride, Sat Dec 28, 8AM Post by rmillay on Dec 12th, 2013, 6:00pm The old OCOFOB route can go from near my house to Kiest Avenue to Ledbetter, and back via Illinois, for 15 miles with modest climbs. It includes a couple of interesting roads. A longer route goes out to Mountain Creek Parkway and to I-20 (or further) for about 20 miles or more, and includes a nice, big hill. Title: Re: Post-Xmas breakfast and ride, Sat Dec 28, 8AM Post by rmillay on Dec 19th, 2013, 8:45pm I think it was $10 last year, or a regift. I have one handy! |

Title: Re: Post-Xmas breakfast and ride, Sat Dec 28, 8AM Post by FlyingLaZBoy on Dec 24th, 2013, 8:53am Simple inexpensive White Elephant exchange -- either re-gift something, or purchase new. It can be ANYTHING -- bike related or not, and let's say a recommended $15-$20 max. Or, if you want to wrap up a carbon-fiber Musashi and a couple of lottery tickets, GO FOR IT! :D :D :D :D :D :D We'll draw numbers, and do the "Mean Santa" thing, where you have the choice of stealing a prior opened gift, or picking something from the pile. The second "steal" of a gift locks it down. |

Bob, do you have a "ridewithgps" or other map for both routes? Can you post them here? The 15-miler will be for the "slower group", which will have at least two ~10mph trike riders in it, Vilma Peguero and Emily Penn. Terrie and I will volunteer to lead this group, since we'll be on the Margarita Machine. |
Title: Re: Post-Xmas breakfast and ride, Sat Dec 28, 8AM Post by rmillay on Dec 24th, 2013, 4:51pm I don't have ridewithgps. I tried mapmyride, but it works poorly, and since i'm a free member, it wont let me print them out. Little help here? I can make up cue sheets, ala rando rides. |

Title: Re: Post-Xmas breakfast and ride, Sat Dec 28, 8AM Post by FlyingLaZBoy on Dec 26th, 2013, 9:32am Bob, would you be available/interested in riding the route(s) tomorrow (Friday), starting around 11:30- noon? I could meet you at Norma's, since we're starting from there Saturday morning... Call me -- 214 690 6781 Paul |

Title: Re: Post-Xmas breakfast and ride, Sat Dec 28, 8AM Post by rmillay on Dec 27th, 2013, 7:59pm Sorry, I got to this too late, Paul. Actually I did the route in my car today, and it's still all there. I'll correct the cue sheet and bring a map of some sort for the short ride, and I'll attempt to lead the long group, if anyone wants to do it. And we can take off from my house if you prefer. |
Title: Re: Post-Xmas breakfast and ride, Sat Dec 28, 8AM Post by Action Lad on Dec 27th, 2013, 9:25pm So, I go shopping for a present for tomorrow's a.m. extravaganza. I could have gone straight to PC&F, but wanted to go to Performance first, since it was that much closer from McKinney. I picked out something, brought it to the desk, and the guy said, "You know, there's a 15% discount on everything in the store...except bikes." I told him I only ride recumbents. He said he would ride them eventually, when he's too old for uprights. (Easy, Key, keep cool. Just buy and leave). "You only say that because you have no experience with them." I decided to overlook the comment, and look at clothing. "Oh no, no, I know someone who is a "recumbie"". He produces contact info of a bent bike rider he says lives in McKinney, whom I have never seen. "I know that some have one wheel in the front, and others, one wheel in the back. Me: "I ride tadpoles, with the two in the front." "Whoa! You take your life in your hands even more than I do!" I told him that he keeps making judgments based on lack of knowledge. that if he were really curious, he would ask, and not be pejorative. When he told me that he was starting to feel hurt that I was upset with his innocent comments, I left. Just as well, when PC&F heard the story, they gave me an upgrade of the article I WAS going to get for the same price. It was worth the grief. [smiley=runover.gif] |
