Title: Trail Update Post by Patti on Sep 18th, 2013, 9:59am Just received an update indicating they are finally paving the northeast end of the Santa Fe Trestle Trail. Soon it will be rideable from Oak Cliff to Riverfront Drive without a nasty walk up and over the levee. The trail itself is really pretty, using the old Santa Fe RR bridge to cross the Trinity near the kayak park. It's a short trail but will be a great way to cross the river without traffic, once they finish the downtown side. The Oak Cliff trailhead is located across Eighth Street from the Corinth Street DART station. |
Title: Re: Trail Update Post by Action Lad on Oct 2nd, 2013, 12:03am Patti, Help me out, since I don't know much about the streets. The last time I rode the Santa Fe going south from WRL, (about two summers ago), the trail ended right after coming down this bridge overpass. It just dead ended at this street. Has it been continued, or is it just another section farther south that you're talking about? |
Title: Re: Trail Update Post by Patti on Oct 2nd, 2013, 9:07am Key, it is a different trail entirely. The Santa Fe Trestle Trail runs between E. Eighth Street, in Oak Cliff, across the Trinity to a point where adventurous riders can take a short off-pavement adventure that connects to the south end of Riverfront Drive, just outside of downtown Dallas. The Santa Fe Trail you are familiar with is the one in East Dallas that abruptly ends after the Haskell overpass. Both trails are on parts of the old Santa Fe right-of-way, but they do not connect at the present time. |
