Title: August 31
Post by kenbent6 on Aug 8th, 2013, 4:08pm

That is the date for the FUN RIDE to Lancaster air port fly in, car show, food and maybe ice cream. Details later. Remember a FUN RIDE is classed as 12 MPH or less.. [smiley=deadhorsebeat.gif]

It is on my calendar...... but I'm a bit concerned about the uncertainty of ice cream   [smiley=shrug.gif]

I'm actually "highly concerned" about the uncertainty of ice cream.  :D

Will there be an option to ride at 24 mph through the "Valley of the Dogs", and then wait for the 12 mph riders with the dog teeth punctures in their legs?  :D

Actually, the dogs are one of the attractions of the ride for me. No one has ever been bitten. I'll never forget that big pack of Chihuahuas that came running from a house, growling and barking, but never making it to the road. They wanted us real bad, but just didn't have the endurance. Cracked me up.  :D

Is it that time again already? I'm in!

Just remember - you dont have to be faster than the dogs, just faster than the slowest rider  [smiley=evil.gif]

Are we gonna see Cookie on this ride?

This was a fun ride last year!  Too bad I'll miss out this time.  There was a great deal of surrey talk last year, and at least one example was out.  There were a couple of speed sprints as well, but over all stayed together as a group and had a real good time...even though we had to go out of the way for the Texas Stop Sign, it wasn't that bad.  Go if you can!

Dogs? I don't do dogs. Who was it that brought the bear spray on a ride? Might need some if I'm gonna ride this.

Don't let my comments about dogs discourage you from doing this ride. I probably shouldn't have made them. It's kind of an inside joke between Kenny and a few of us about the rides he organizes. Most of the dogs we have encountered on the ride are behind fences. If we do happen to encounter any aggressive, loose ones, they are repelled by the Airzound horns and spray a few of us are packing. No one has ever been bitten. We always have a lot of fun on this ride. A great opportunity to get up close and personal with old piston engine aircraft and classic cars, and if we're lucky, some awesome home made vanilla ice cream. If we miss the ice cream, we can always stop for root beer floats at DQ on the way back. Oh, and the barbecue sandwiches sold in the big hanger at the airport are pretty good, too.

I'm more scared of my fellow riders then the dogs.  But seriously - don't let that stop you.  Last time I rode with Kenny to the airport I was disappointed in how few dogs we ran across.  The ride didn't seem to live up to my expectations.

Agree.  The only dogs I remember were the old ones riding with us... [smiley=evil.gif]

Trouble is, that's BikeMart trike Saturday.  Not that I couldn't ride my trike, but I'd hate for no one to show for that!

Bob, if a number of us RBM trike ride regulars plan to do Kenny's ride (I do), maybe we could E-mail Joel Hernandez and let him know of the conflict and our intentions to not give up on his RBM ride.

Last year, and the year before, we met at the Northwest corner of the Robinwood Baptist Church parking lot (111 E. Stark Rd. Seagoville, TX 75159), and rolled out at 8:00 AM. I'm sure Kenny will confirm this later.

Kenny, we arrived too early last year. What about leaving later, so maybe we will still be there when the ice cream arrives in the early afternoon?

I ride the trike on this ride, since I don't have to race anyone, and it's a pleasant alternative.  Plus, you can look the terrible chihuahuas in the eye!    [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

I might do a ride to the ride and leave from Poteet HS and head to the church.  Should add around 30 miles round trip.  Will wait and see what Kenny publishes as the "official ride" but I estimate this will make the ride and the ride to the ride approximately 100k.  Let me know if anyone else is interested in this as well.

OK, count Terrie and me in for the tandem...  from Seagoville, not Mesquite...
