Title: Re: Strava discriminating against recumbent riders Post by shellbear on Jul 4th, 2013, 7:09pm This confuses me because they even have a recumbent group/club on Strava and all of those users have leader board stats, as do I. I guess maybe you won't draw the ire of their admins unless you make KOM/QOM somewhere? I think the whole thing is silly because 1) who gives a crap who's in first on a web service that doesn't give monetary or other awards for stats, 2) anything we gain in comparison to uprights on downhills is negated on uphills, and 3) seems to me the aerodynamic improvement of a recumbent is outweighed (pun intended) by the higher mass of the bike itself. How can they say that comparing recumbents to uprights as a whole is any worse than comparing a steel fixie with a 14lb TT bike with aero drops, aero wheels, and aero helmet? Doesn't make any sense... |
Title: Re: Strava discriminating against recumbent riders Post by AustinSkater on Jul 4th, 2013, 8:03pm I can't access the article, but as someone who has a few KOMs on Strava I haven't noticed any issues in this regard. I do have an issue with Strava in general, since there is no way to indicate that a KOM was taken as part of a group ride, or as a solo time-trial ride. (That, and the fact that they have Kiteboarding, but refuse to have any paddle sports). |
Title: Re: Strava discriminating against recumbent riders Post by Mizta_Nice on Jul 5th, 2013, 5:58am I am kinda done with Strava anyway, some of those segment times are obviously vehicle aided times. Besides, if they want to level the playing field there should be a drop down menu to select a category of bike and type of handlebars and helmet. I ride to compete with me, not anyone else. Stop this mindless discrimination! Aren't we all on wheels? |
