Title: Lancaster Bike Shop Rides, every Sat and Sun Post by FlyingLaZBoy on May 1st, 2013, 7:20am John Paulus is doing regular weekend rides out of his shop in downtown Lancaster. The Saturday ride is typically pretty slow, rolling at 10-12mph for about 15 miles -- and is essentially a no-drop "beginner/casual" ride. Sunday's 8AM ride is longer and somewhat faster paced, but still no-drop -- we did 30+ miles (through Gator Country), rolling at 14-17 mph, finishing with a 14 average. Both rides are on low-traffic country roads, and are a good time -- consider hooking in with John, occasionally, for something different! Call the shop the day before to confirm the rides -- if it rains, no ride. |

Paul, any rest stops on the Sunday rides? |
Title: Re: Lancaster Bike Shop Rides, every Sat and Sun Post by FlyingLaZBoy on May 2nd, 2013, 11:59am Yes -- we took a couple "roadside" nature breaks along the way, and one gas station stop. |
Title: Re: Lancaster Bike Shop Rides, every Sat and Sun Post by shellbear on May 2nd, 2013, 12:16pm Heck yeah! It's a great route, I will definitely be coming to some of the Sunday rides. :-D I'm booked through May 12 but after that I'd love to make it a regular thing. |
Title: Re: Lancaster Bike Shop Rides, every Sat and Sun Post by FlyingLaZBoy on May 3rd, 2013, 10:59am Dear Lancaster & Dallas/Ellis/Tarrant-County Bikers, The weather forecast looks great, so the moderately-paced 12 to 13 mph average bike ride WILL take place this SUNDAY morning, May 5th. Riders will gather at 8:00 am in front of John's Bicycles on the Lancaster Town Square. The group will take off promptly at 8:15 am. We will return to the Town Square about 10:00 to 10:15 am. The route will be on rural side roads , which typically have very light traffic (often no traffic). Total ride distance will be about 20-25 miles. You are welcome to just do part of the mileage, or add some extra miles (preferably after the basic ride is completed). We ask that you wear a helmet & gloves, and bring water and a spare tube that fits your bike. Front & rear flashers would also be good. I look forward to seeing you on Sunday morning! Regards, John John Paulus John's Bicycles, LLC 157 Historic Town Square Lancaster, TX 75146 Cell 972-765-3952 |
Title: Re: Lancaster Bike Shop Rides, every Sat and Sun Post by rhinojogger on May 3rd, 2013, 11:03am Jay, this is Bill. Are you going to do this on sunday? do you know their address in Lancaster? |
Title: Re: Lancaster Bike Shop Rides, every Sat and Sun Post by FlyingLaZBoy on May 3rd, 2013, 12:22pm Bill, it's the downtown Lancaster circle, Main Street -- you can't miss it, right off of Dallas Ave. John's shop is right there. Note that this is NOT the Gazebo area where the GDB rally registration stuff is - it's the downtown circle, one block south. |

Bill, The wind chill is going to be 45 degrees at 8:00 AM, so I'm not interested in doing the ride. Had enough cold weather riding to last me a while. The address is 157 Historic Town Square 75146. Shop's phone number is 972-227-7360. Jay |

Title: Re: Lancaster Bike Shop Rides, every Sat and Sun Post by FlyingLaZBoy on May 10th, 2013, 11:10am I received this email from John: Dear Bikers, The weather forecast looks perfect, so the moderately-paced 12 to 13 mph average bike ride is a go for this SUNDAY morning, May 12th. Title: Re: Lancaster Bike Shop Rides, every Sat and Sun Post by FlyingLaZBoy on May 17th, 2013, 2:15pm EMAIL FROM JOHN PAULUS, May 17th: Dear Fellow Bikers, As many of you know, Sue Ann and I migrate to Lake City, Colorado for the 4 months of June through October. We will be leaving for Colorado on June 3rd or 4th this year (just a bit over 2 weeks from now). My able fellow mechanic Michael Garza will be running the shop this summer, with the part-time help of two shop apprentices. Michael, who has worked diligently with me for over a year, will continue to provide expert, responsive service during the summer months. Since significant preparation is needed for our migration to Colorado, I am suspending the SUNDAY 12-13 mph ride. If there is still interest when we return to Lancaster at the beginning of October, the ride will be resumed at that time. I have enjoyed riding with you in the winter and spring months, and hope to do so again next fall. During the next few weeks, Michael and I will be working hard to take care of our customers' Spring service needs. If you need something done, please give us a call. If you are in SW Colorado this summer, please call me at my seasonal shop there (Lake City Bicycles, 970-944-0405). I would love to see you, and you would find a remote mountain paradise that might be an unusual spot for your next vacation. Regards, John |
