Post by obent on Apr 14th, 2013, 8:37am

Starting in May, the RBM Saturday trike rides will be on the last Sat. of the month, same time 9:30am.

Glad you posted this here. I looked on RBM's website and found only the bike rides on their calendar. Couldn't find any mention of the recumbent group.

Your welcome.  So how was the MS. Trip?

Excellent. We followed a bad weather front all the way down, but stayed behind it and missed all the bad stuff. Hattiesburg still has quite a bit of damage from the previous tornado, which went right by the hotel. Our ride days were perfect, weather wise. It was cool Friday morning but warmed up to the mid 70's with clear skies. The Trace was very enjoyable. It was wonderful to find a place where they have clean, fully functional rest stops rather than filthy port potties and broken water fountains. The ride was beautiful. The overnight stay in Prentiss was nothing to write home about but it was comfortable enough for one night. My favorite place was a stop in Bassfield, at the A.F. Carraway Store. A true, small town, general store, stepping in the door was like stepping back in time. The store opened in 1919 and they have a guest book for visitors. The weather on Saturday for the return trip was equally beautiful and just a bit warmer.  Once we got back to the turn off for the hotel, Steve and I decided to go on down to the trailhead at USM. We spent a few minutes riding around campus and noting the tornado damage still evident in the area. We ended up with right at 85 miles for the two days.  On the way home on Sunday, we took a side trip to Brandon to check out the bike shop. It wasn't open. We had forgotten it was Sunday in Mississippi. However, the owner was there, saw us looking in the windows and invited us in. What an amazing store. I counted over 50 recumbent bikes and trikes. Definitely a worthwhile destination for any recumbent rider while traveling in Mississippi. Thanks for recommending it!

According to the initial post in this thread, the monthly trike ride should take place on Saturday, May 25. Still no confirmation on RBM's website. Anybody confirmed with Joel Hernandez that there will be a ride this month?

Yep, that's the story.  I'll be there to pace the Zombie Hunters.  I'll call just to make sure, but he said on two occasions that it would be at the end of this month, and every month. [smiley=pepper.gif]
I plan to hold it at 15 mph, and to stop if some drop off the back.  This first time using the regular route, and if the consensus is that it's too short, we'll find a better distance.  Any suggestions?

I typically do the 36 mile route, which is sort of a wart on the 29 miler, but it gives one a few more hills to condition the legs.   :)

Hmm,
I'd like to try that this month on my own, to see what the difference is, because to be honest, the regular route for the trikers is a bit short for me.  I arrive back at RBM with my body singing with Peggy Lee, "Is That All There Is?"   :'(

Anyone, besides Key L, Bob M, and I, going to do this Saturday's trike ride? Bueller, Bueller? Patti and Steve, Patti and Steve?  :)

Gee, kinda looks bad at present in McKinney.  Thunder and rain.  I shan't be riding in the rain, or if it's a wet tarmac tomorrow...just hours from now.  So glad I got a ride in today, which was threatening all day.  I wonder what it looks like in Richardson.
