Title: Re: April RBM Trike Ride Post by jayg on Apr 3rd, 2013, 9:28pm Big conflict, as that's the date of the GDB Lancaster Country Ride. :( I'm doing Lancaster. Probably going to be conflicts with pay rides until July. |
Title: Re: April RBM Trike Ride Post by Patti on Apr 4th, 2013, 9:11am I know. But not everybody wants to ride with a couple of thousand people so I figured I'd post for anyone NOT doing the LCR. ;D |
Title: Re: April RBM Trike Ride Post by jayg on Apr 4th, 2013, 2:33pm I'll miss doing the ride. Hope attendance remains good for the next several months, so RBM doesn't eliminate it. |
Title: Re: April RBM Trike Ride Post by Patti on Apr 4th, 2013, 4:08pm Well we did suggest to Joel that he should not schedule it on the same weekend as the big, popular rides. I'll keep posting stuff and try to get people to go, even when the rest of us cannot. Maybe they can keep some consistent numbers. Wonder how much the big rides impact their other Saturday bike rides? |
Title: Re: April RBM Trike Ride Post by rmillay on Apr 4th, 2013, 4:28pm I'll see how my eye is doing. Maybe I can help herd the slow group! [smiley=shrug.gif] |

That's a good point. Seems like attendance at each monthly trike ride is 50% regulars and 50% new riders. The pay ride conflicts might affect as few as four regulars. |
Title: Re: April RBM Trike Ride Post by rmillay on Apr 5th, 2013, 3:39pm For their regular roadie rides, the popular tee-shirt rides drop the population about 50%, except for the short rides, which are hardly affected. |
Title: Re: April RBM Trike Ride Post by testersbc on Apr 7th, 2013, 7:11pm patti how many miles and how fast? wife and i might be interested in riding. |
Title: Re: April RBM Trike Ride Post by Patti on Apr 7th, 2013, 9:49pm They do one group, with the front of the pack traveling about 12mph (or so) and the slower riders following behind. They have a ride leader and a ride sweep, who watches out for those at the back and makes sure no one gets left behind. The sweep rider also handles most of the mechanical difficulties should anyone have a problem. There is a regroup point where beginning riders or just those who have had enough, may turn around and head back for a ride of roughly 13 miles. The rest of the group heads on down the road to a turn-around point (with a Starbucks). They then return following the same route for a ride of about 20 miles. Sometimes there is a smaller group that branches off from the turn-around point to do extra miles. Please don't be intimidated by the speed. It is always a mixed group The guys from RBM can even hitch someone up to one of their Ride Kick trailers if they get too tired or just don't feel up to doing the whole ride without a little assistance. It is fun and a nice opportunity to meet other trike folks. |
Title: Re: April RBM Trike Ride Post by Action Lad on Apr 12th, 2013, 7:33pm Hmm, I wonder when I should fake my debilitating cramps to get hooked up to the RideKick. I'm thinking the first mile and a half. ::) I'll be there with (Jelli-) bells on...but not my AirZound. It bit the dust on chipseal a few days back. (RIP) |
Title: Re: April RBM Trike Ride Post by Action Lad on Apr 14th, 2013, 2:30pm Videos of the RBM April ride are up. Here's the first: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94R3y3vJ9Ls Enjoy! |
Title: Re: April RBM Trike Ride Post by Denman on Apr 14th, 2013, 10:00pm So Key, were you whacking the weeds as you rode? For some strange reason I kept hearing something like one of my yard tools when you accelerated. |

Hey John, I don't know what you mean, but the idler pulleys make a zzzzzzz sound. If you hear that sound rising in pitch, then pausing as I shift, then that's the sound. Not loud in real life, but every little sound is picked up by the sensitive GoPro cam. Also, there are two of them under there, rather than one, as original. You being an engineer, I'm surprised you didn't guess that. |
