Title: JUne CCRBENT ride?
Post by Monkeywrangler22 on May 7th, 2012, 12:40pm

So with the pleasant success of last Saturday's first CCRBENT ride, what about June?  The 9th is out (Collin Co Classic), the 17th is out (Fathers Day) too.  That leaves for the weekends, June 2-3, 10,16, 23-24 & 30th.  Any other upcoming pay rides in June I didn't account for?  Major Brevets or Randos on the schedule?

What about having 2 different rides?  One for slower pace and social, and the other longer/faster?  I know some folks are looking to explore the more northern roads, and some folks are not ready for that yet.  Dave would be happy leading the faster group I am sure, and I would be happy guiding either a slower social ride, or a longer ride but at about a 12-13mph avg.

Just chime in with your thoughts and ideas, help select a date or two, and what your preference is on distance and pacing.

Ok, using Jayg's edits, we have June 2-3, 10, 24 & 30th.  I am leaning toward earlier in the month in the hopes it will be cooler, and will not delay a gathering for almost 2mo if we go late into June...

Preferences for distance? Under 20mi, 30-50, 60+?

I'm open all dates, and prefer the breezier group.  My guardian angel just got a fast trike, so he can keep up.   [smiley=engel017.gif]

The 16th is when 8 to 10 of us are doing the LSR 200K DART ride...

I'm up for whatever...I'll look at the calendar later.  Kim's going to need some slow/short training before we jump into something longer/faster together.  I can go out with Kim, Lloyd & Terri for a shorter/slower ride as well.  I'd be willing to lead a short/slow group and then we could have 3 different groups and we all could have some fun and fellowship together after as well.  Maybe if wekeep getting together, soon we'll all be able to go a bit faster abd a bit further and still have the fun of being together.

More discussion to follow, but I have very poor (read: no) internet for the next week or so...

Title: Re: JUne CCRBENT ride?
Post by Monkeywrangler22 on May 16th, 2012, 7:48pm

I'm thinking either the June 2-3 weekend, or June 10th.  That is the day after the Collin Co Classic, so a 'recovery' ride is a possible option for folks too.  I am not sure if Terri will be able to ride, as it looks like she will have a surgery soon...not sure on the timing.  Lloyd will probably be available though.  I am game for either slow & social short ride like the Wilmeth loop, or longer (Weston loop with hills), runs about 34mi and has some virgin asphalt on Weston road!  I still only average 12.5mph overall on even the longer rides, so that is still pretty darned slow... :( , so if anyone wants more distance but not so much speed, I know a nice route.

Well, now I have commitments on the June 2nd, but that shouldn't cause a "no go" if everyone can do it.

Why not just have a meet with the Collin County Classic?

If we all just hang out as a pack that will work.

Moreover, I'll even host a little party afterwards for those interested; pool, maybe some grilled delights.....

Ouch! $30 for registration.  We could do the Collin County Classic, or we could ride the route on our own another day, and pay you for the cost of various BBQ delights.  Hmmm. [smiley=cheers.gif] [smiley=popcorn.gif]  I'm up for either.

I'll be open to anything; I will be at the CC Classic, but will not be available between June 29-July 9.

My whole family  is doing  the CCC.  The kids pitched in half so it was affordable.  Only a 4 mile ride, but as it is their first it should be fun.  Will also be Kim's first on the Speed.  I'll look for everyone st the Classic.

I have to get back on the SXP! I don't see anything else on the calendar right now...vacation is done, mom's house is on the market, looking forward to the CCC.  Salads this week have been great...no more 'vacation' food!  LOL!  [smiley=puking.gif] (Never though I'd say that!)

Looks like I may do a preliminary HHH test ride at WRL with Tony Ward.  We're still working out the details.  It was a hot 10 today.

Ric, it was my impression that Jim and Tony were planning to ride on Sunday, June 3rd. Since a date has not been firmed up for the CCRBENT ride, I was going to suggest that maybe they would let some of us join them.

Title: Re: JUne CCRBENT ride?
Post by Monkeywrangler22 on May 29th, 2012, 6:47pm

Well if y'all are thinking of riding WRL on the 3rd we could call it the CCRBENT ride for June.  I'll probably send Dave, as he is going to do HHH this year and WRL would give him some practice dodging slower riders and pedestrians... (we don't have that problem 'out in the county'!)  :D

Otherwise I will be doing either a slow ride on Wilmeth like last  time so new folks can have someone to ride with and get more comfortable on the roads, or I may just go out for the Weston loop which runs about 37mi total.

Arrrgh!  I have to ride on Saturday, due to church on Sunday.  Tony and I have not finalized yet, but Saturday was the plan...double checking the calendar that would be the 2nd.  Looks to be around a 7am start.  I've never been there so I'm not familiar on where to park.  I planned to see how many .maps I could actually go, as a baseline for my HHH training.

Looks like Tony and Jim were planning to ride at WRL on Saturday, instead of Sunday. Just learned my Sister is coming to Dallas on Saturday, so I won't be riding. Also, found out there will be a running event at WRL from 8:00 AM tp 12:00 PM on Saturday, so not good news for cyclists. Thanks Jay...any other places we can try...I suppose my visit to the lake will have to wait.  I'm still up for the CCRBENT ride if it is on, but I also want to do a longer ride just to see what I can do.

Title: Re: JUne CCRBENT ride?

Dave might be up for a ride to Weston. That'd net about 40 mi +/-. Normally he's good for more distance but he has  fighting a virus or something this past week and he needs some recovery time.

Title: Re: JUne CCRBENT ride?
Post by JimFPU on May 30th, 2012, 8:21am

I could try that.  We'd have to coordinate maps and see where to meet up, I'd just ride from my house toward McKinney/Weston and meet up.  I assume Dave would be coming from your house close to the route we took for the first CCRBENT ride.  I could cut across from Melissa and meet up somewhere.  I'm not beyond calling Kim to come get me either if I over extend.  I just need a baseline for the HHH if I'm to do it this year...  [smiley=shrug.gif]

If you could take 543(Weston Rd) out of Melissa into CR168 and ride that up to the CR166/168 intersection at Myers Park, that'd be about perfect.  Then you'd get to experiecnce the full joys of the Triple Bypass!  If your legs hold out, then you can just take 168/543 straight back home too.  Or if you snag a ride from your wife, then Myers Park makes an easy pick-up point.

I'm going to have to bail - I'll probably just do a solo ride from the house early Saturday am.  Ya'll have fun!

Jim - we will catch up and talk more at WRL another time.

Option #1 is Weston Loop (http://ridewithgps.com/routes/1256211).  We can ride as many loops of the CR125/Weston Road/CR 171/CR 2478 as folks want.  One lap gives us a ride of just over 36 miles.  Each additional lap is another 15.4 miles.  If needed I think I might be able to volunteer Vicky to run a SAG stop for water and food.  Or there is a small cafe in Weston.

Option #2 is McKinney/Weston/Gunter/Celina (http://ridewithgps.com/routes/777207).  This is about 55 miles with several places to fill up on water and food, (convenience stores in Gunter and Celina).

On both routes the hills are "reasonable", the roads are ok, (Weston road is brand new pavement and smooth as anything!) and the traffic is generally pretty light, (although Lake Forest and 1461 can be busy).

Hopefully I've recovered enough from this bug that I'll be good to go.  I'm itching to get a good ride in.

Let me know what you think.

And yes, I will be happy to run a sag stop for folks if you opt for the Weston loop.

Title: Re: JUne CCRBENT ride?
Post by JimFPU on May 31st, 2012, 9:26am

I could try and meet you at my 5 mile mark, your 9 mile mark; I would then break from you at your 48, my 43.5.  It would end up giving me almost 52 miles...that would be a new distance record for me.  http://ridewithgps.com/routes/1257842

Anywhere to eat in Gunter or Celina if necessary?

Anyone else want to join in?  I suspect we will try and keep the pace up a bit more over the last CCRBENT ride, but as I'm still riding my pace will probably be around the 10-12 MPH average.

Are we still going to try a June CCRBENT ride, or are we just doing the CCC this month?

I think you and Dave on the Saturday ride will BE the CCRBENT ride this month!

As for places to eat, there is Sonic in Celina and Gunter too.

One cannot assume that riders won't show up regardless of the responses on the board. I would be up for 30,50 or whatever. Name the starting place and time and I and probably others will show up.

Starting location: Krogers parking lot at Lake Forest & Eldorado Pkwy in McKinney.
Start time: SAturday June 2, at I'll guess 8:00am but Dave may change that so be sure to check this thread.
Ride leader: Dave DeKnight  (you can PM him for his cellphone.)
SAG support if needed: Vicky DeKnight ( me --you can PM me for my cell or ask Dave on the ride ). Or you can make your own arrangements.

Dave will let folks know if it will be the Weston Loop(s) or the Celina/Gunter/Weston route.  If it is the Weston Loop(s) I can be available to run a water stop along the way if desired.

Jim, we can certainly meet up there.  Be advised though, that is a bit of a nasty corner coming from my direction.  I'd suggest meeting up where Weston Road and CR125 meet.  In fact just west on CR125 there is a nice pull out on the south side of the road by a creek.  I usually stop there to uh, hmm, check the trees...     [smiley=dancer.gif]Thats it...

There is a small cafe in Weston, their hours are kind of random however.  They may or may not be open.  If we get up to Gunter, there is food to be had there.

All, It looks like for any interested the meet will be at the Krogers at the NE corner of Lake Forest and Eldorado Parkway in McKinney at 0800 on Saturday.

I'll be at Kroger at 0800 unless there are severe storms in the area, (riding in hail is no fun and tornadoes make for really killer headwinds).

If it's decent weather I/we should pick you up at Weston/CR125 around 9-9:15 Jim.

My job said that they won't be needing me tomorrow at all, so I'm in, storms or not.  During this past year I've ridden through everything...even pea-sized hail.  Even if it rains, it will be warming up so quickly that it shouldn't matter. 40% usually means it will probably be short-lived.
