Title: I'm SO out of shape...
Post by JimFPU on Apr 7th, 2012, 9:32pm

but thank God for patient riding partners.  I rode a 16 mile loop with Action Lad (his 'home loop) today, and he very graciously settled in at a 12 MPH average...the guy wasn't even peddling half the time!  Took us 1:21 with 3 stops...wow I'm a bent rider bent out of shape!  But all in all a good time.  He kept telling me the pain was good for building muscle...seems I've heard that a lot this week (started at the gym... [smiley=twitchy.gif])

So this is what I saw most of the time:
http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a2da26b3127cceff9a5ca9097c00000030O00Act27Zw2ZMmgPbz4U/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/

Before the ride Key on his Cat 700, and my SXP:

I've had a lot of "cool bike" comments and all like everyone here, but this is the first ride where I saw someone actually stop and stare  [smiley=jawdrop.gif]as we went by...it was pretty humorous!

Key is a wonderful person in exceptional condition.  He rode ovet to my house afterwards to pick up a light bar then off to take care of chores.

We ride a couple trikes, if you want to ride with us sometime send me a pm

Denman, it was a fun ride but if you want me to tag along get ready for a slow ride.  Key tells me to remember these days as in a year I'll be hammering along.  I told him the only hammers I own are in my tool box!  It's good to feel what it's like to be the slow one though.  I'll get in shape and kept up!

So Jim, you say you are slow, but how slow IS your slow?  Come down to McKinney and we can do the Wilmeth road loop or the Weston loop if you are up for 20-35 mi at 12-13mph.

My slow was (is) averaging 10-11 MPH.  I'll get back though.  When i was riding the old Infinity all the time I was up to almost 16 average...man what a difference a year and a half makes!  It's not the bike it's the motor!

I'd like to see what your loops look like though, anywhere you have them mapped out?  I was pretty tired after about 13 as well.  Both of my calves started to cramp due to the constant start/stop.  I even gearee done to cross the streets with traffic, suppose I just have to remember that there is enough time to walk across I surely can ride across fast enough.  Still have the mentality that I have to get out of the way as opposed to I have the right to be on the road as well...just don't like to hassle the flow too much...Key taught me a few things about that though, need to find that book he mentioned...

Weston Loop  http://ridewithgps.com/routes/750206
Wilmeth rd  http://ridewithgps.com/routes/946369
long one: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/1005874

Those are the three I ride most commonly, with the long one being newer to me, but Dave knows it well.

Well, perhaps less a book than a movement:

It's gonna take me a while to get to these.  I could probably do the 20 albeit slow.  the others will have to be built up to-not that I can't do it in my mind, but I already know from 2 16-20 mile rides that my calves start cramping up around then...I'll have to make some of my own loops and start training some more, and not just do the home commute.

Interesting site Key.  Thanks for posting it.

Jim, the Wilmeth road loop is the shortest and the easiest to make short (just cut down the number of times you ride the loop, or which loop you ride).  If you want to meet up to ride it any evening when there is enough light (summer) or on the weekends when Dave is free to watch the kids, we can ride it.  Or you can meet up with Dave and ride that loop and then he'd go on withhis long rides--whatever works out.

Key there is a 9.something % grade in there somewhere.... [smiley=shocked.gif]

This is a more rural version of your commute.  Not 100% certain it is all blacktop or not, but I think it is...

I've looked at that way as well, but right across 75, it is gravel on Melissa until you get to CR 229 or if you decide to go to CR206 to Weston road it's gravel as well.  maybe I'll look at it on a weekend ride and see what it would take to ride it.  Maybe put on some bigger tires?  Dunno I'll have to look at it.

Thanks for the routes.  I'll try 'em!  Sure does get boring doing the same one or two all the time, and just picking a route that others have done without any commentary on what to expect can bring some disappointment.
Hey, Monkeywrangler22, we should ride together!

Key, what is your YouTube channel?

I am "palmvictory" at YouTube.  Just about all my posts there will have the tag, "One Bad Tadpole".  The vids of us are up there.

Key I'd love to have some company, if you don't mind going slow again...I avg 13+/- on these routes. Dave is 2-3mph faster on avg, and tends to ride on Saturday, so you could certainly get in a longer ride with him.  The Weston Cafe is open Sat 9-6pm I think, and Sundays 11-3pm.

As I told JimFPU before we rode, the point is just being out there together.  Hate to sound all sappy, but being a recumbent pilot can be quite a lonely thing.  Normally, my companions are the motorons who pace me as I am trying to work out.  The faster I go, the less willing they are to go about their own business. No, I so welcome the companionship that velocity is not a consideration.  Best for me is when school lets out, and when I get my car back.  Those are two things hindering me at the moment.  Until then, Saturdays will mainly be about errands, then the occasional meet up.

Er...which Dave?  What's his handle?

Dave =dd5339 , my husband.  And I would be happy to have some company on rides, Key. [smiley=thumbsup.gif] Anytime it works out for both schedules. I'm sure Dave would also enjoy company.
