Title: Anyone done the Aledo Ride for Heroes?
Post by Monkeywrangler22 on Apr 6th, 2012, 10:08am

I am probably going to be doing the Aledo ride later this month.  Has anyone here done it before?  If so, what distance did you do, and how was the ride overall?  Decent SAGS? Organization & route planning?

I am debating the 60 or 73 mi options, but am wondering just how hilly it will be.  Any input or suggestions?

Thanks!

It's a nice ride. It is hilly, but not as hilly as Weatherford, Goatneck or Muenster. I did 50 or 60 miles several years ago, and the the support was fine.

A few ride reviews from John S' "Bicycle-Stuff.com" can be found here: http://www.bicycle-stuff.com/reviews/04_april/aledo.htm.

Here's (http://rideforheroes.org/) the ride's website. I haven't done this ride before. It's fairly close to home for me and I think I'll give it a try this year.

Looks like the weather will be on the cool side, with a15-20mph wind from the north. It should make for a nice tail wind on the homeward leg.

Anyone else going to Aledo Saturday?

\did it last year and will be there again this year!   Last year I started the ride with my dad, who was planning on doing a shorter distance, but unfortunately he started out too fast and was feeling quite ill by mile 7 and I had to wait with him for a SAG vehicle.  Poor guy was not in shape for even the early hills.  <3

I continued on to do the 60 if I remember correctly, and it was hilly but the support and rest stops were great!  This year I'll be doing the 73.  Hope to see you out there!  I'll be on the purple Catbike Musashi.  :)
