Title: Broken chains?
Post by rmillay on Apr 27th, 2011, 4:26pm

Although it's not obvious to me why an un-abused chain should break, I know it seems to happen to some of my mileage-addicted friends.  So I'm curious whether the experience of the rbent group is similar to that of the more upright inclined.  Anybody ever break a chain on his 'bent?  Negative feedback from the high-mileage crew is also solicited.  Bob M.

I bent a link when I mis-shifted going up a hill - Except for that I have had years of unbroken chains.

Never had a chain break, but had a pin start to come out. No problems, after I started using quik-links, instead of installing pins.

Had one snap apart uphill too once, but that was it.  Thankfully, I always carry a quicklink.

I've done about 80,000 miles in the past 8 years and haven't broken a chain yet, use standard Shimano stuff.
